Dr. List is awesome! He was so accessible outside of class and he genuinely wanted us to learn and do well. He is also passionate about the subject which really helps. It is a very involved class, but if you study regularly, then an A is definitely attainable.

This was probably the hardest class I've ever taken, but Dr. List was still a great professor. He's really sweet and his fascination with organic chemistry is quite evident in lecture, yet he can make (and correct) the casual mistake from time to time. His tests are fair (easier than others') and Top Hat gives a HUGE boost to your final grade.

Nice dude. Definitely is a better orgo professor than gen chem. Tests are relatively easy if you study and follow the lecture material. Only thing is that when he is in a rush to lecture or fit something in the exam he gets sloppy with his teaching but other than that good professor and would recommend

Lectures felt rather disorganized--sometimes entire slides would be skipped after he glanced at them. Was lost on days when he left his notes at home. Not great at re-explaining in a different way if asked. Very friendly during office hours, willing to stay extra long to get everyone taken care of. Not familiar with the online work (Dr. Todd is)

Comment:
List really makes chemistry lecture interesting. He is such a character, in the best way, and he really seems to want everyone to succeed. General chemistry is tough, especially since the tests make up most of the grade and they're fairly hard. But List is a great choice for a lecturer and explains things really well.

Comment:
List is honestly a great guy who is super funny and makes lectures interesting. He's not going to be super helpful in terms of teaching for what is going to be on the test but since all the gen chem tests are the same the professor really doesn't matter that much. Overall List is fine.

List is a great guy and entertaining in lecture. He covers the minimum of what you need to know. Overall, Gen Chem is tough but reading and minimizing silly mistakes allows you to do well. Beware the final, be sure to review at the end of the semester.

I had Dr. List for Gen Chem and for Orgo Lab. In orgo lab, I liked him so much more! He went through each bay at times, and he was very helpful when needed! My partner and I didn't understand a concept, but he explained it very clearly. I liked orgo lab so much more than gen chem lab, and the work wasn't too bad. It also depends a lot on your TA.

I wouldn't recommend Professor List if you have never taken chemistry before. However, if you are comfortable with the basics, take him because he does entertain and it makes that early morning lecture a little more bearable. He does get tripped up basic calculations sometimes, but he makes up for it by banging his head on the board in frustration

Comment:
List is a dad with a UChicago degree. While he is enthusiastic about the material and sometimes funny in lectures, he skips half the material required to know for his tests which are impossible if you rely on the lectures only. The TAs are your only saviors should you take List's General Chemistry, which I advise you not to do. Pick another prof.

He's a really nice guy, but a bad lecturer. He forgets to mention like half the material that the other chem profs teach, so you have to read the book or get notes from friends in other sections to be ready for the discussion quizzes and tests. He's very silly though and makes lectures entertaining, but you can't rely on them to pass.

Dr. List was a decent professor, but nothing special. He taught the required material, but often times he got confused by his own calculations. He was very friendly and was always willing to help. Clicker questions in his class are great for you if you choose not to go to discussion. The tests are standardized, but very doable if you read the book.

List is very accessible and very funny. He wants to answer questions that students have. The class is too standardized to see how effective he really is as a teacher though. Lectures are a bit helpful but the book is way better.

Professor List is a poor lecturer. He finds himself underprepared at times and struggles doing simple addition. Closely follows his lecture plans and also attempts to make jokes. He is mediocre at best.

Professor list teaches what is necessary for Gen Chem, but will get tripped up on his notes and go off on tangents during lectures. He was helpful during office hours, but the book was more valuable than his lectures. He is a decent professor, but Gen Chem is too standardized to tell how effective he really is.

He was a nice and entertaining guy. Towards the end of the year, I stopped going to lectures, but when I did, I thought he was pretty clear and understandable. I relied more on discussion for extra credit, but some test questions were very similar to his clicker questions. However, aside from his PPTs, prepare to read the textbook. You'll need it.
