Comment:
If you like Shakespeare, this class will be great. Arthur is very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. However, sometimes his lectures are pretty irrelevant (a lot about history, not a lot about themesmotifssymbols and whatnot) but overall, he is good.

Arthur is great. He is a highly distinguished Shakespearean (his name is in the back of a Signet Classic Edition for criticism). If you're not a lazy, arrogant student this is a great class. We read nine plays, had two essays, and an open book midterm and final. Funny and passionate. He takes attendance, but you're in college. Go to class.

Arthur is a great and funny guy. I really enjoy taking his class, it's one of the highlights of my week. He really knows his stuff and I can tell he loves being up there talking about Shakespeare. He really is an expert. I encourage people who enjoy reading Shakespeare to take this class because it really helps you appreciate it to the fullest.

Really great class. Kinney and his TAs have some really cool ideas about Shakespeare plays. 2 essays, one open book midterm and one open book final. Pretty easy class if you like Shakespeare

Pretty bad. Lectures are boring. He's dry, airy, and is obviously extremely full of himself, so attempting to get help from him in any way won't work. His TAs are terrified of him. Take this with someone else.

Relatively easy class. I don't even like Shakespeare and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Lectures are boring. Discussions are helpful. Only two papers, a midterm and a final. Kinney is mostly boring as hell though.

Kinney must have changed his diet or something, because he was an amazing professor this semester. The course work was the lightest of any class I've taken yet at UMass, it really helped me enjoy the works more. I honestly got shivers in some of his lectures. Awesome class, definitely take it with him.

After reading these reviews I was terrified to take Shakespeare with him.. BUT I actually found him to be a relatively easy grader. Sparknotes is extremely helpful, TAs encourage you to use it. I was pleasantly surprised by this class!

Very good professor. Really knows his stuff. Also, reads from texts in voices! It's like storytime for college kids. But, he expects *college level* work on Shakespeare, and a lot of people get turned off by that. You're in college. Deal with it.

not one of UMass's finest. He may have been a stellar intellectual at one time, but was a bitter, vindictive, and nasty individual when I had him. Never switched out of a class until I had this one. Not recommended for anyone who wants to learn and to enjoy the subject matter.

AWFUL professor - strayed from the point. I didn't get anything out of lectures - they were a waste of time. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROF & THIS CLASS - both are soo not worth your time. I am so disappointed. He RUINED Shakespeare for me FOREVER.

Worst English class I have taken at UMASS. A message to all English majors, if you want to learn something, take this class with another professor or at another school.

Very nice guy. Excellent lectures. He knows a LOT of stuff and explains well. On the other hand, I only attended two lectures and got a B+. Note: as someone mentioned, the final was inSANE. VVVVV difficult and weird. Be forewarned.

Nice guy, but boring lectures. You do not need to go to lecture, just discussion section to get a good grade. Although they are tough graders, must do well on your papers to get a decent grade.Don't give any alternatives to better your grade, you only have 3 papers and a final. Quizzes in discussio
