It looks like most of the poor reviews are from the intro level courses. I've only taken upper level classes with him, and I think he's fantastic. Perhaps students that aren't that into philosophy just don't get him. I've openly disagreed with many of his philosofical views, and I've yet to receive even the slightest disrespect from him for it.

Although class was boring, I suggest going to it. You can get a B if you show up to every class with out ever doing the readings because the tests are on the class discussions. He is a very very kind man; he wants everyone to succeed.

Class was boring because he spent the full 75 mins talking at us. However, he is a very nice man! He learned my name on the first day and I forgot to do a part of the mid-term and he let me make it up. The readings are super short, and a lot of people didn't do them. If you ask him to let you make up points, he will. Also, the final was a take home

Really, really excellent. Anyone who takes this class is lucky to learn from this professor. He is Harvard and Princeton trained and it shows. Not only is the bioethical thought fascinating but his historical knowledge adds a great deal of value to the philosophical debates. He also is very polite and caring towards his students.

a jumbled up philosophy-mess of sweetheart. such a nice guy, cares about his students. He definitely rambles and repeats subject matter, but is willing to listen for a few seconds so he can make his own spin off your idea. He just likes to talk like any other philosophy prof. I think he's great. Not too hard, only a few grades, low stress level

Arthur is one of the all around most intelligent professors at UVM. I've enjoyed every class ive taken with him. he can ramble sometimes but knows his stuff. very helpful inside and outside of class. negative comments probably came from buisness students whos minds are too closed to attempt to understand philsophy

seriously this was the worst teacher i have ever had. he made a girl cry because he did not agree with her views and he flat out told her she was wrong. he is close minded and rude. DO NOT take a class from him. You will not be motivated to go, do the readings, meet with him, or do anything else in the class.

Ignore the negative comments about this amazing man. Don't rudely interrupt him and don't contribute time-wasting irrelevant points. He does talk for extended periods of time but has such a way with words that it isn't boring. Appropriately professional, very polite, genuine, sharp, good-humored, and warmhearted. He truly cares about his students.

Rude and closed minded. Doesn't encourage any free thought in a field that demands it. He rejects opinions that differ from his own. Shoots you down if you decide to speak up in class (even if you are agreeing with him). Tests are easy. Just regurgitate what he says back to him and you'll get a good grade. No thought required for this course.

This class is easy if you go to class and don't want to think. Kuflik is knowledgeable but in order to stay on his good side you have to agree with all of his opinions. He will not entertain anyone else's ideas. He rambles on and on. Take this if you aren't in to deep thinking on your own, or you will be shot down.

In summary, If you would like to expand your intellectual, personal, and moral horizons I would highly recommend Dr. Kuflik. he may be long winded, but his statements are packed with information. I left his 3 hour class every week with many questions and craving for more. Don't listen to these PHIL 004 goons, take it from an upperclassman. Kuflik!!

Professor Kuflik is rude. When he isn't asking questions just so he can interrupt the answers, he's rambling on the same topics for up to a week at a time. You'll get a good grade if you just write down what he's said, but don't bother trying to think.

Ugh, this guy is a piece of work. He just repeats the same idea for days and uses terrible examples to illustrate his opinions. That's all this class is based on is his opinions. Forget having your own, you'll get massive points deducted for that. Regergitate his answers to do well.

Take only if you live philosophy. You have to provide your own interest level in this class. Aurthur rambles on running over the same ideas and going overtime every class without adding any interesting points. He likes to hear himself talk and you are best off spitting back out his words verbatim on tests. He will take points off for unique ideas.

Kuflik spends entire class periods rambling on about his own opinion, he often asks for students input, but disregards anything that is contrary to his own view. Test questions are all discussed in length during class, and if you answer by writing Kuflik's thoughts verbatim you will do alright. Even paraphrasing his words means points off.

Comment:
Prof. Kuflik repeats the same thing over and over again. He doesn't take advantage of a small class setting rarely asking for engagement and when he does you have to tell him what he wants to hear or else he ignores you. Only things I've learned from this class have been from the book. He uses strange and irrelevent examples going on tangents.

Comment:
Just dont take this class. Dont. Unless you are the kind of person who could take 3 pages of notes every class and keep all your comments to yourself, because talking aloud=useless. He interrupts you, which i find ironic because he teaches a class of ethics and has such a horrible execution of them himself.
