You do not have to be great at art to take his class. He helps you make a great project. You will most likely have to do a lot of your projects at home though. Three projects and one research paper. Would recommend.

Comment:

Be ready to read a lot of heavy material in short amounts of time. But if you're able to keep up with the reading, the tests are a breeze. I got the E-book version of Gardner's which made it that much easier when doing the short answer portions of the tests. Never had to interact with Mr. Porter because he laid out a very detail syllabus.

Although he seemed like a nice guy and the class was interesting (drawing 2), we went from drawing boxes to live nude models of young women, but the part that irked me was his camera using! He took hundreds of pictures of the girls, some with us (the students) in it w/o explaining to us why. I was never asked to be in these! No thank you.

Wonderful professor. Took the class rather hesitantly, but turned out loving it. He's obviously very passionate about his work. Going into the class I had little to no painting experience. Taking his class has made me realize that I greatly enjoy painting, now that I know what I'm doing.

Such a great teacher! I loved him! He was great at being able to help you believe in yourself and the talent you have. I thought I couldn't paint worth a damn...I turned out being pretty good at it! Plus, he wasn't bad to look at every day!
