Seriously no matter what class you take with this guy you'll learn a lot! He seems to know everything about everything. You can tell he's really knowledgeable about almost all eras of history across the world. He's always in a good mood and cares about his students doing well. Loved his class overall!

He tries so hard to be funny that it is terribly distracting. Basically every other sentence is a joke, and every single lecture consists of him telling literally a hundred pointless little stories and speaking so quickly that you cannot possibly follow him or really get a grasp on the history you are supposed to be learning. Reading necessary.

LOVED his class! He was a lot of help if you asked him for it, especially if you were struggling in class. He had random attendance days, so I would attend every class. Go over his notes, all of them are on the test! Overall the best history teacher I've had yet!

Taking his class this semester, and he is the best teacher if you need a history class. I'm taking Chinese Civilization for my degree and couldn't ask for a better teacher, he is funny and keeps you interested. Its a pretty easy class yet very in depth (lots to remember). Recommended!

Very good professor. This class was difficult, considering it was an elective for me. I also had to miss a lot of time for interviews on top of taking 20 credits that semester, but he really worked with me and even gave me extensions to complete everything. He was one of the best professors I had.

This guy knows his stuff! He's also very funny. As for the class, he gives you everything you need to do well, and the tests are take home. He grades a little tough, but if you take your time with the tests, you should have no problem. Definitely worth checking out.

Very friendly, interested in his students and helping them succeed. Well versed in his areas. Only teaches a few classes each semester since he's the department chair, but he really loves what he does and makes classes a really fun time.

Hands down, the funniest professor I've had. He's a tough grader, though I probably didn't spend as much time on his tests as I should have. He keeps you interested in every lecture, because you're laughing every 10 seconds. This also makes much of the content easy to remember.

He teaches very popular classes and does them well. Sometimes he gets a bit wordy during lecture, but overall is interesting to listen to. Readings are about worthless, but examples from the text are needed for a decent grade on the take-home tests. He is also exceptionally helpful as long as one is willing to put in the effort.

Dobbs is a really funny and VERY knowledgeable on his stuff. Plus he is nice. My only knock against him would be that his requirements concerning subject coverage, length, and citation of the textbooks for the essay-exams are rather undefined and thus frustrating as he is a tough grader to start. I would recommend him though, but just try harder.

Class was not that difficult. He does take attendence for 10 precent of the grade. If you read the books, you will get an A in this class. All tests are take home essay. Great guy to know in class and outside of class. Also very funny guy, as long as you know your history jokes. Take a class from him you will not be dissapoined!

He goes through things really fast because there is so much to cover but if you have questions you can stop him and ask. He is very interesting and keeps you interested. I would recommend him. The tests were essay and they gave you terms that you needed to know. If you studied those you were fine.

He is an excellent teacher and makes the class interesting. The tests were essay but they give you study guide of the terms you may have to define so if you study those you'll do well. I would highly recommend him.

He's a jerk. If you're not a friend to him, or suck up, he gives you a bad grade. I would work with 3 other people writing for his tests, and we would all put down the same things and everything. I contstantly got a full letter grade below the suck ups. Hard to take notes as well, he goes too fast. Also, too much reading...like 6 books!!!

Took his classes in 2000/2001, is pretty interesting and knowledgable. Take home essay tests require a lot of writing (8-12 pages??) but aren't very hard. He's a fun prof, if you like military history you'll enjoy his classes.
