Dr. Cushman is easily one of the most engaging professors I've had at GW. His lectures are interesting and don't just consist of rehashing the reading materials (bonus: if you've skipped a piece of reading, you'll be okay). Turns of phrase are memorable - you'll never forget the 1903 General Staff Act, and that's one hell of an accomplishment.

"Why State Sucks". "Donald Rumsfeld is the sith lord of bureaocratic politics." "Dick Cheney and The Donald have been friends since Dick's seventh heart attack, sometime around the precambrian era, 7.5 million years ago." Fantastic, sarcastic, intelligent professor. Highly reccomended.

The best prof I have ever taken in college. He's funny, he's witty, and he knows his stuff. He takes the most dry stuff and makes it interesting and memorable. You don't forget lectures titled "Why Congress Sucks" or the imaginary image of your prof walking through the halls of the Pentagon with a 2 by 4 crucifying people. TAKE HIS CLASS!

Prof. Cushman is one of the best professor's at GW. He is engaging, very experienced, and not overly demanding as far as assigned readings and papers. I will definitely look for him when registering next semester. Highly recommended.
