Professor Holden is an amazing man, and his lectures are interesting and engaging... but he is by far the toughest HIST professor at SMCM. He grades difficulty and his attendance policy is to take 10 points off your grade for every absence after 2. His exam and paper questions can be vague at times and he takes off points for every tiny thing.

Great professor! You'll learn a lot, and there's not a lot of reading. You have to study for his exams, but if you take good notes you'll do fine. And he's more than willing to meet sutdents outisde of class for extra help.

He was a good teacher, nice to. But he had a huge problem with the Catholic church and I found it really offensive. It was hard for me to concentrate on actual history, while he lectured on and on about how the Catholics ruined the entire world.

Easily one of the best teachers I've ever had the pleasure of taking a class with and the best American Historian at SMCM. Nice guy, great lecturer, highly engaging and easy to talk to. He's a fair grader, but is more than willing to help students out.

Chuck Holden is an awesome teacher and an all around great guy. He is brilliant but not overbearing or condescending. I feel comfortable asking for help if I need it, and he is more than willing to provide it. He has a great passion for history, and he makes his classes really interesting and fun.

Chuck is the MAN. You learn a lot with only a fairly moderate amount of work, and his you need to study for his exams but they are not difficult if you prepare. far more lecture than anything else, but that's to be expected from an intro class

Holden is great professor. Very enthusiastic and seems to love what he is doing. He gives plenty of time for you to hand in papers and unless you procrastinate, you don't feel rushed. Definitely amusing and worth getting up at 8 am. I would take another class with him if I have the time.

i had no problem getting up for his 8am class and he didnt mind if you were a lil late either. very enthusiastic and his tests are not hard if you study and take good notes. A very good teacher- definitely take him for history!!
