A little disorganized. Might work in your favor b/c assignments get pushed back. Lives far and might cancel class. A sweetheart but what we learned was nothing deep or new. The grading in her essays and essay portions of exams is arbitrary and harsh. Lots of tricky T/F. Not much effort required to get a B level grade. Write her words/notes verbatim

I think Professor Martin does a horrible job running our classes. She failed a student for "not putting enough evidence" in a paper. Highly recommend you avoid this professor!

I think Professor Martin does a great job in combining lectures along with pertinent Ted Talks and video clips. There are group presentations that are the majority of the semester. She only assigned one long paper and there are two exams--one midterm and one final. she is clear about what is on both of the exams. overall, i loved her class!

The WORST class I have ever taken in Colgate. You know something is wrong when the student presentations are better than the actual lectures.

Bioethics should be great discussion/debate, but it is mostly just Martin lecturing by reading articles aloud and telling you what to write in the margins. Exams are purely vague/obscure multiple choice (hard to get above a B-). She'll call your papers "excellent" and offer no critiques, but give you a B. Definitely not worth the GPA damage.

She is boring and simply regurgitates information from the reading. Assignments were often vague and needed repeated inquiry to clarify. I learned only from doing the readings, not from class. She is a very tough grader with very high standards.

Martin is a great person, but not a great professor. She was disorganized and her lectures were boring, but like others said, she would just say in class what she wanted you to know.

She means well but is a bit disorganized. I don't know how she is in other classes, but for my FSEM she was a fine teacher. We never had to do the readings and she constantly made numbered lists of everything that we needed to know and read them aloud to us in class. She is kind and was a solid professor.

Not a lot of work, and reading is not necessary, just make sure you show up to class because everything she expects you to know on exams she will explicitly go through in her lectures. She is also very flexible in papers and assignments.

Had her for legacies. Nice person with very little work- she summarizes all the reading for you and boils it down to the key points. take notes and study them and your guaranteed an a on midterm or final. all we did was group presentations and tests- very easy if you care AT ALL.

By far the worst teacher/professor I have ever had. She was unprepared for class most of the time and just had us take turns presenting the reading. I went into the class thinking I might want to be a religion major but we barely ever talked about religion- she turned it into a bio-ethics class basically. She is a very difficult grader as well.

I love Martin. She is great. She doesn't come to class often, and will cancel class if she doesn't feel well. Her tests are hard, but she will give you an A on Presentations and they count a lot towards the grade. She is a great person and her class is very interesting. She loves bringing music and movies into class to relate to the material

My least favorite prof so far at Colgate! Ambiguous grading, horrific attendance, very poor communication outside class, & lectures are a rushed BORE. She let us out early almost every class. It's not hard to do well, but don't be surprised if your final grade isn't what you'd expected(higher or lower). Also, don't expect your final essay returned.

easy class to get an A in. very difficult to communicate with, missed class often, extremely biased. if fed BS, will eat it up. a teacher that requires you to play the game. she constantly discusses the oppression of african american women, even though the class had nothing do with that. would take again for easy A but plays favorites

The single worst professor I've ever had. She missed class (Western Trad) more than 6 times over the semester for "illness" and a family vacation. This would have been wonderful if the class wasn't at 830 and she gave prior warning. Her grading is erratic and class consists of small groups giving presentations so she doesn't have to do anything.

I took her for New Testament. I learned some things about the bible but overall I wouldn't recommend the class. We had an oral exam final where we sat and talked for an hour which was good because it wasn't difficult but bad because I have no idea how it impacted my grade which was lower than expected.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.... She gives much more writing than other teachers, then doesn't read it. She never returned two of our research papers and I am convinced that she did not read them. Classes are very boring, and she once gave us a pop quiz on the day a research paper was due.

Over the entire semester she lectured maybe six times, the rest she just filled the class with busy work. When I contacted her at the end of the semester about getting the last two papers and final back, she made up some bs about storage losing them. After a while she just stopped returning e-mails. Do not take a class with her.
