Comment:
For me, Dr. Barnett very well demonstrates her understanding of art in class through her teaching method. Her lectures and almost entirely in-class discussion of the plays students were expected to read between the lectures and share thoughts on the themes. She gives plenty of feedback on papers to help improve students' writing abilities as well.

Had her for Playwriting. Overall--I would take another class by her. Show up to class, turn your assignment in and you'll pass. What I took from her class is that you always have a voice to write to. By the end of the semester, I finally got the hang of how to write for HER. Not for myself. That's the real downside.

I took Themes in Lit: Women Who Kill in the fall of '15. Much of it is a discussion over the plays assigned. The plays are very interesting and easy to read for the most part. She assigns 3 papers, has a mid term, and a final. She grades papers pretty critically, but she's a fun, entertaining professor and cares about her student. Highly recommend.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Barnett. She is by far one of the best professors I've had thus far. Women Who Kill was a really fun, insightful class, and I always enjoyed going. She will really make you think, welcomes other opinions, and really cares about her students. She has this quiet humor about her, too. Wonderful professor.

Dr. Barnett was my dissertation director. I took Modern Drama with her and fell in love with the subject matter and Naomi Wallace. She is brilliant but approachable. Dr. Barnett is, by far, one of the kindest instructors with whom I have had the privilege of working. She helped me produce a product of which I was proud. I am forever thankful.

I took Modern Drama with Dr. Barnett and I loved every class. You do have to read the assigned plays because the three hour class is discussion based, but Dr. Barnett is effective and inspiring in leading the discussion. The four assigned papers aren't too much to handle, and Dr. Barnett always offers constructive and insightful criticism.

I took Magical Realism during the summer. It might be different during a typical semester. There was a lot of reading and class is spent in group discussions. We had 3 or 4 essays during the summer, all essays were related the the short stories we had to read. Semi-tough grader, but not unreasonable. I wouldn't want to take it during fall/spring.

Comment:
Eng 2020 Magical Realism is the best English class I've taken. There's a lot of group discussion about the stories that are assigned. You can probably skip a few classes, but attendance is 10% of your grade. If you don't read the material you probably won't do well, your essays and exams are based on titles and quotes from the stories.

She doesn't give many homework assignments or tests and they are very easy IF you read the plays. If you don't read, you're lost. She takes off points for missing classes and she is relentless (I had a baby). She is a really good teacher though, very nice and very smart. She knows what she is doing.

LOVE Dr. Barnett!! The materials read are very interesting and she challenges you. I took her honors writing class and it definitely pushed me, but she's the type of teacher I would feel bad if I turned in half-done work or didn't read the books. I'm taking another one of her classes next semester! TAKE HER!

My FAVORITE teacher! The text she requires you read is always really interesting, and when writing papers and giving input in discussion, she is always very understanding and accepting. You can ask her for help on anything - even for things irrelevant to school - and she will be sure to help. I HIGHLY recommend her!!!

She's a great professor, but I didn't get a great impression on day one. Seemed kind of aloof and intimidating. But actually she's quite kind and brilliant. Unique sense of humor, but I enjoyed it. She'll make you work but isn't too strict or unreasonable with her grading.

Even if you absolutely hate English with a passion, Dr. Barnett will make you fall in love with it. I cannot say enough good things about her. She is always willing to help. She is easy to understand. The work load is not bad at all. She is quite funny too. I cannot recommend her enough!!! I plan on taking her other classes!!!

You would be crazy not to love this woman! The class is very informal, she respects and welcomes differing opinions. Lost of class discussion. Her focus is drama. There were three essays, two exams assigned and we had to perform a scene from one of the plays we read in groups. Really enjoyable class!

Truly an inspiring professor. Met three of my best college friends in her class freshman year, and we all tried to take more of her classes later on. Challenging, but easy to "work for."
