Comment:
Merrell possesses talent, but refuses to pass on any knowledge of craftsmanship to his students. He is self obsessed, and he has capitalized on the fact that he can do one thing with immense skill and that is paintings of clouds. His work can captures gesture, but is not at all emotive. Students that take his advice tend to produce crap.

I wouldn't be where I am today w/out Clayton. His willingness to help in and out of class is amazing. If you prove yourself to him he'll stop at nothing to help you out.

Comment:
A bit too esoteric, most assignments were given with themese of destruction rather than creation...He does have a good knowledge of painting, but painting assignments didnt teach much about skill or technqiue, which yeilded a lot of bad work

Comment:
Assigned the same project several times: do a drawing, rip it up, glue it back together, and draw over it again. This was of limited help in expanding students' skills and appeared to be his personal schtick. He did not provide strong leadership or structure for the class.
