He is the NICEST professor ever! He is very fair with grading, respects our occasional need for an extension on an essay due to exams/prelims and gives easy quizzes to reward anyone who attends. There's no reason to skip this class, it's interesting and Prof. Scherer is awesome.

Comment:

I enjoyed the class overall, though sometimes lectures could be dry. Brings up a lot of good points and makes you see things--particularly in film that you might not have noticed before. The quizzes are a pain and count for a lot, and the final is unexpectedly difficult so make sure to really prepare. For such a big class he goes to every section.

Please. Whatever you do, go to class so you can get full credit for those stupid quizzes. Even if you didn't read the night before ( which you really should) just go to class and take those quizzes! also do well the papers. and the final.

I came into this class excited because I'd heard about how awesome it was. It's not. Scherer is a very nice guy, but his lectures are very boring. I would always dread attending this class. If it's not a requirement for you, take a better class that will be worth your time.

Extremely repetitive and generic in lecture. If it weren't for the quiz every day, literally no one would show up to class. Definitely respect the fact that the prof goes to ALL of the discussions (two hours each) but he doesn't really let his TA's do anything but "get the lights." Oh, and grade your papers on an incomprehensible criterium.

Kind, adorable, funny man. Class is best for non-comm majors to avoid repeating information. Semi difficult- you get back what you put in, but I found it very interesting. Class does NOT concentrate on financial risk. Very good for those interested in health communication.

The class was pretty easy, but nothing was really ground breaking. The stuff you learn is interesting, but its just pointing out the obvious for the most part. It was fun though, although I am not really sure how anything was really graded. I got an A on everything yet a B+ in the class. Go figure.

great professor. very enthusiastic during lecture. his exams are fair (study guide was very helpful!). even though it was at 9am, i didnt miss a class because there's a daily quiz question (not difficult and a great was to keep your grade up)
