Honestly the worst professor and the worst class I have ever taken at Purdue. All three of the exams (the only grades in the class) are based off reading the textbook and other assigned books. He doesn't believe in study guides, but he will let you bring in a list of what you think mine be short answer topics, but knowing the info doesn't even help

Professor Bynum is easy going but enjoys preaching his own political viewpoints rather than just teaching us history. Attendance is not mandatory and his lectures are irrelevant because only material from the readings are on the exams. If you want a class that you can completely blow off then this is the class for you.

The class was easy but I do feel like I learned a lot. He assigns a lot of reading but you don't have to read every single page to do well. We had a great class atmosphere and Bynum was always very willing to clarify/answer questions. He encouraged debate and discussion which led to very educational conversations. Overall, great class!

The class was not very difficult but I do feel like I learned a lot. He assigns a lot of reading but you don't have to read every single page in order to do well. We always had a fun class atmosphere and he was always VERY willing to clarify things. He encouraged debate and discussion which led to some very educational conversations. Great class!

Very easy going teacher. Attendence not mandatory and the class was very conversational. If you ask a question he will go above and beyond to answer. 3 tests, no hw, but as long as you read the assigned readings you'll just fine. Really funny guy, enjoyed the class.

Good proffessor. Really easy going and very accomodating to any absences or problems i had. Easy to talk to and get along with, makes the subject interesting, and knows alot about it. exams are not hard, can pass with an A with 1 days study. Would definately recommend taking his courses

Professor Bynum is the worst professor I've had at Purdue. His exams cover nothing from lecture, even things from previous exams in a non cumulative class. He cancels lectures constantly, skipping material that should be covered on the exams. Professor Bynum doesn't believe in study sheets for exams, and that grades do not matter. Steer clear.

Worst professor I've had @ Purdue! Exam material has nothing to do with lectures and there is no incentive to go to class. Grade is 3 exams and honestly, there was nothing from lecture on the test. Spent 10 hours studying to fail a test. Won't talk about the tests bc he knows how pissed off students were. Very lazy teacher and it shows through majo

Prof. Bynum is very easy going and easy to get along with. He doesn't take attendance and shows quite a few films on African-American History. The books he assigns for outside reading are interesting. No homework, just 3 exams, so each one is a huge chunk. Exams are essay and short answer

He's the worst professor I've had in a long time. His lectures do not go with his exams. He is not willing to work with absences, even if you had a good reason not to be there. His attendance policy is each class you miss you get 1/2 a letter grade deducted from your final overall course grade. It's ridiculous.

I agree with the other student from 396 about his lecturing. Although, it seemed like he really did not enjoy the course topic and repeatedly mentioned that it wasn't really his area. Maybe he would have been better in another class. He seemed like a nice guy

Bynum is not a great lecturer, he too often says "umm" and "uh", and sometimes students call him on outright errors. He does put forth effort and care about the class though, and overall he's pretty good.

Professor Bynum is one of the most intelligent and easy going teachers I have ever had!!! He was always there to over his help and he was able to make class very interesting. I would recommend taking one of his history classes on the Civil Rights Movement.

Comment:

He is a really straight forward teacher. No big surprises on the test and is fair to all students. His style of teaching (mostly reading directly from his notes) takes some getting used to, but he tends to make class more fun as the semester goes on.
