Professor Defazio is great. Reminds me of Al Pacino. He can be tough on students (especially if you come in late), but you can tell he really cares about them and wants them to be informed.

Comment:
One of the most interesting professors I've had. He may stray from the material sometimes, but everything he says is connected to the course or to life. And this course is about life. The class is simple: show up, and listen to what he has to say. I've found myself disagreeing with him A LOT, but he knows what he's talking about. Take this class.

I took Defazio for Separation, Divorce, and Custody. The class consisted of a total of 4 take-home quizzes and 1 final exam (and the 1st quiz we didn't have to take). His lectures are clear and he always makes sure the entire class understands his concepts. There is no book. I will be taking his other two courses next semester.

Took law & soc change, very thought provoking and tells interesting stories! lectures are long but gives breaks. Very intimidating at first, but is actually nice just be careful he's strict. 3 pop quizzes so read for every class, midterm & final are open responses but were ok-just be thoughtful, clear, and draw connections to the textbk & lecture

If you want to learn material out of a book take him. Lectures so far have had little to no real content. Don't get me wrong, he speaks well. But I am not a fan, he repeats the same 4 stories all semester. If you do not read the book carefully you will not do well

Not a hard grader. Very easy going. Final was take home. Gives only a few quizes even though he says he gives them every week. A practicing lawyer so he is very knowledgable about the subject and tells interesting stories from his law career. Goes off on tangents pretty often. Not a hard grader and willing to help you and give you advice

If this class offends you, stay out of the real world. This guy will make you look at so many social issues in an entirely new light, and you will leave the class with knowledge that may actually be useful in the future. He's intimidating, but he's brilliant. Take home midterm and final and a couple quizzes. He's definitely worth taking!

Great Professor! You may think he's a stuck up guy who only cares about himself, but your opinion will change! Take home midterm, 5 "pop" quizes straight from the book (he tells you what to study), lecture is mandatory. He expects you to read the book, gives LOTS of handouts, and expects you to listen to him. Just finished this summer. The prof likes to use examples from his own cases that have been in the news. Entertaining and brings the theory to life.
