Yes you have to memorize rocks and soils. Even soil types and levels. Must know all sorts of stuff to graduate from college? Do people think you get a Bachelors Degree for showing up and chewing gum? His classes are extremely hard but not impossible. You MUST STUDY and work hard. I've had him twice now and have excelled both times.

An immature and lazy student cannot be successful in his classes, I see that. I was challenged! Imagine that? To be challenged at a higher education level! Loved every minute, no matter how hard the material was. He has so much to offer. Don't understand where the complaining is coming from? He should work for the Government!

You cannot be on your phone. You cannot have side conversations about Twitter. You must be a grown person who wants to learn. This man is like the Einstein of the Eastern Shore. Listen to him. You will learn so much if you just concentrate and listen. He will not dumb it down and you need to *want* to learn. One of the best professors ever.

He expects you to be a grown up and READ before class, ya know like a bonafide college kid. He made me crave to know more earth science! Yes it's a hard class but so rewarding. He's not some new age best friend teacher, but he knows his stuff. Listen to him.

Worst teacher I've ever had. I don't care how well you think you know Earth Science, or if you have no idea what to expect, you will struggle in this class. He has no idea how to teach at all. He expects every student to understand and will not explain in depth at all. Tests are impossible. Be prepared to memorize 20 types of soil and rocks....

DR. Maase is like a mad scientist at your doorstep. The man is brilliant and has so much to offer his students and the world. Be an adult, a "big kid". Do the work, take notes, read BEFORE class and study. He offers online quizzes that are EXACTLY what is on the exams. This class was hard but so rewarding!

Not very personable. He doesn't post grades on Canvas; he didn't like others asking about their grade; he only gave them formulas to figure it out for themselves. I wouldn't advice taking him but if necessary, make sure you show you're trying. I struggled with the tests (C's and D's) but I put effort into the labs and projects.

Terrible class gets lost in his own lectures, impossible to take notes and he gets angry when he doesn't see everyone taking notes. Tests are impossible,his grading system is extremely confusing, and if you try to get him to help you figure out your grade he will tell you to figure it out yourself. He does not put any grades online.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. I received A's in his 2 classes:not easily. It is one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken. I loved it! I have learned so much. He is very kind & loves the subjects he teaches. He is fair: do the work and make an effort; then you will not fail. If you work hard you can get an A, I am proof.

The final for Earth Science was 200+ questions long and accumulative. That should tell you something...RUN! He is very smart but has a hard time communicating the great information to students. He follows the book and expects you to read the whole thing. Let's just say I chose a different prof. for another science class...

Extremely hard to follow during lecture. However, if you read the chapters ahead of time and work on your labs you will do fine. Take interest in the class, do all your assignments, show up on time for attendance quizzes and you will do great. He knows he is hard to follow but if you show effort he will help you out. Brilliant professor!

He is brilliant, he really knows his stuff but is not the best teacher. He uses the text book A LOT. My suggestion would be to read every chapter, closely, then do the lab work then study study study! His tests are very challenging but if you do the reading and study you will be fine. You just have to be willing to put the work into it.
