Lectures can get a little dry but Prof Pike is a really good guy who cares about his students. You'll get a lot more out of the class if you go to office hours and ask for help via email because he communicates well one-on-one. He has high standards but he wants you to succeed and is always willing to help

Professor Pike was alright. Sometimes his lectures were cool, but he didn't give good guidelines or feedback on assignments.

Professor Pike is a lovely guy with a passion for the subject he teaches. He is clearly very intelligent and expects very high standards from his students - almost expecting us to have the same level of passion and single-mindedness. I was marked down on my paper in part because I didn't come up with a brilliant new insight.

Absolutely my favorite professor I had my freshman year of college; a wonderful intro to film course. As a film major, I found the actual work simple and tailored perfectly for a Gen Ed. 2 tests, 4 papers, and attendance make up your grade, but he is not a harsh grader and incredibly helpful during office hours. Highly, highly recommended.

Pike is absolutely my favorite professor I've had in the lit department thus far. He's very cool and knowledgeable. He doesn't call you out if you haven't done the reading, and he never makes you feel wrong when you make a stupid comment about it, he always finds a way to agree with your statement. Extremely helpful with papers and assignments

He is a brilliant teacher. I liked film to an extent prior to registering. But after his class, I loved film. His ability to truly educate you is superb, from his teaching methods to the wisdom you are bestowed from the side effects of his work. If you want to learn and get an A, Professor Pike is the man.

Pike is a great professor. Not hard to do well in his class. Go to class and listen, notes are not needed. He is a great teacher and teaches from the textbook a lot. He is very knowledgeable on the topic. As long as you are able to critically analyze films with a basic knowledge of film terms, at the very least you will get a B. Very helpful.

The type of professor I would like to be someday. One of the most intelligent men on the faculty. His presence in the classroom is formidable and approachable. Managed to meaningfully power through the entire divine comedy in 1 semester! If I could, I would have him tutor me in all the classics!

He's a really nice guy and helpful via e-mails, but the class is pretty hard. Lectures are disorganized, but discussion-based. You should DEFINITELY read Barsam (50 pages/week) before the lectures. You get to pick the movie for the midterm and final, though, so pick an easy one -- i.e., not Fight Club.

If your fine with 80% of the films being in black or white/silent, then you will love this class. Its a good class with not as much work as the other cinema professors, but tends to be a bit boring. His one pet peeve is cellphones, so put it on silent if you don't want to be killed.

He only has basic knowledge of movies, and has seen very few movies made after 1970. I haven't learned anything aside from a few technical terms, most of the material is common knowledge. I didn't take notes once and got a B+, but his lectures are very very boring. He takes attendance every class and gives quizzes usually every other class.

He expects a lot from his students but he is completely fair. Really interesting and understanding. Quizzes are a bit difficult but you make up for them with other grades. Gives students multiple opportunities to earn extra points. Really knows his stuff.

This is a pretty tough class, but if you do some of the reading you'll do fine. The quizes are easy and should help pad some crappier grades. He definitely knows what he's talking about and absolutely loves film. I would definitely recommend him.

Extremely hard grader. Make sure to do well on quizzes and journal entries because those WILL count when it comes to your final grade. I am a lit major and I found this class VERY boring. However, the prof is extremely knowledgable.
