Shes on okay professor but she lectures way too much. There were only maybe 3 main things we were grade don in the whole course: 3 papers and one small assignment. It was kinda a joke in that regard but it is unclear what she wants for some of the papers. Overall she was nice but it was frustrating not knowing what grade Id get.

Her teaching style is terrible. She only covers what she wants in lecture and goes on about it for two and a half weeks. Then what you went to class to learn about isn't even on the exam. If she spent more time on other topics maybe we'd actually learn something. Her accent is more interesting than the content she teaches.

I love Dr. Bhattacharya, but the layout of this class wasn't my favorite, although it wasn't the worst either!!! She really does care about the subject, is super knowledgeable, and cares about her students. You may/may not need the book, but, spoiler alert, you don't actually have to participate. It's a basic non-Eurocentric history class...

Prof. Bhattacharya makes her class interesting and student friendly. Her class consists of lectures but also lots of discussions. In her HIST 243 (South Asian History) class, I was able to learn so many things I didn't know about the place I'm originally from. Read the book and annotate because if your are lucky you can use your book on exams.

This professor is my favorite person on Purdue's campus, I've taken two of her classes and i'm looking forward to taking a third. To do well in her class participate in the discussion, and you need to read the book or you won't do well on the Midterm of Final.

I really enjoyed her lectures, she cares deeply about the topics that she talks about. Go class with an open mind and if you pay attention during the lectures and read the chapters you'll do fine.

This class was easy for the most part because there's no homework assigned. Reading the chapters is a necessity and participation is important but this class is not very labor-intensive at all. Also, make sure you have blue books for the exams - she doesn't give them out and you can't take the test if you don't have one.

Terrible Teacher...Nothing she taught was on the exam. Only after half of the class failed her first exam did she start to care. Also if you don't agree with her liberal views, you might as well keep your mouth shut.

She's friendly but the class is more difficult than it should be. As a sophomore who aced 2 level 400 history courses last year, I am not struggling in this class but my grade reflects otherwise. Her TA's blatantly grade unfairly and it seems she has no oversight over them. I feel as though her choice in TA's is more of a problem to me than she is.

Dead & Undead in History. Great course topic! Readings are stimulating, interesting, and sometimes difficult, but do-able. Discussions help a lot (be prepared to speak up!). Papers are fair but don't expect many guidelines. She has a very witty sense of humor and is very entertaining. I definitely suggest taking a course with her.

Hmmmm.... You guys must have been her favorites because I cannot recall having the same experience. Just because a Professor is hard on his/her students does not necessarily mean he/she is helping them.

If you're taking an historiography course with a prof that never makes you intellectually (and politically) uncomfortable, you are not getting useful contact with the subject. Historiography is meant to be critical (of EVERY perspective), which is surely a good thing--be prepared for this with Dr Bhattacharya.

It doesn't surprise me that a site built on a customer service model of education would generate unfavorable reviews of Dr B. She will not make things easy for you--because that would be a waste of your time. She was one of FEW profs who truly pushed me during my grad studies. Poignant, incisive, extensive feedback on/in every paper and discussion.

This class was really challenging to start with, but it got easier and more fun. If you are not willing to put in a 100% do not take a class with Professor Bhattacharya. She will give you lots of chances, but doesn't tolerate laziness. An A from her means a lot. Great teacher. I wish there were more professors like her.

This is was a very challenging class but the professor made it worth our while. She let us do several rewrites, even after the deadline was past. She wanted us to do well and she worked hard with us to make sure that that happened. I enjoyed being a part of this class and it made me stronger for the grad school experience as a whole.

Dr. Bhattacharya is the worst professor I have ever had. She does not care to connect with students, nor is she sympathetic to her students. Why in the world is she teaching a graduate level class. Her methods are terrible and no, she does not carry any type of "discourse" very well.

I knew nothing about the history of anything east of Greece prior to this class, but I found it wasn't a problem. Interesting material and nothing too difficult. End of the semester may get a little hectic though.
