Worst professor ever. Has no idea what hes talking about. The tests are impossible as you basically have to be able to read his mind to know what to write for the essays. Do not take this class. Biggest regret ever.

Hes a really bad professor. His lectures are extremely boring and the tests are very unfair. I hated this class and wasted so much time on it. Do not take this class for a humanities requirement.

Lectures are extremely boring. He rambles on about random topics and it is impossible to pay attention. There's no focus and I cannot understand what he says with that lisp. The exams require to write like 6 essays in basically 80 minutes and graded very harshly. The readings are ridiculously long. Do not take this class with him, biggest mistake.

Definitely avoid this professor. Taking 260 with Prof. Rolston is the stupidest thing I've done during my college life. The lecture is super dry but you have to attend because after 5 absences, you fail the course. Mandatory discussion attendance, readings, project, essays, exams, this course has everything. It destroys my interest in history.

Comment:
Rolton edits every line of every paper, rewriting your work with his own style while withholding any adequate explanations for his changes. When he does provide comments, he harshly states generalizations such as "The quality of your writing is not good." while continuing to refrain from providing suggestions for improvement. Extremely frustrating.

Your paper will have paragraphs and paragraphs of comments. He revises all your papers line by line. Majority of comments will be stylistic, which I personally wasn't a fan of. There is an unnecessary amount of long readings. Lecture's are a bit dry, but skipping class isn't a big deal. He is a pretty easy grader as long as you revise your paper.

Comment:
Disorganized, does not clarify what he wants from students to receive an A. Pointless work assignments. Many readings which are dry and difficult to get through. The only thing nice about this class is the ability to show up at 9:45 or later for an 8:30 class and still receive credit for being in class.

Class is very disorganized. He jumps from one topic to another without much congrunity between topics. The papers are graded very critically without much information on what to write. Office hours are sometimes helpful in identifying your topics for the paper, but then you receive little guidance during your research/paper writing process.

Very enthusiastic and dedicated. The lecture material is not essential for the class but I enjoyed listening to him. Reading assignments were excessive but you could get away with not reading it all. Grading is lenient as you are allowed to re-write.

Class is very disorganized; he jumps from one topic to another so it's hard to follow. Lots of reading but some are interesting. Essays are graded very critically with no instruction on what to write.

extremely disorganized class. it's a chore to just find readings on c-tools. demanding weekly assignments which are ridiculous, papers graded obnoxiously subjectively and to hear him speak in front of class, well, he talks like he has marbles in his mouth and really makes no point at all. spare yourself before you hate the subject matter.

David is a great professor! He is really easy on the grading, and even if you don't do well, he'll always give you the chance to redo it, and he'll give you extra credit when you're least expecting it. He really loves what he teaches, and he knows the material well. Take his class!!

He always gave me A's, even on assignments I wrote at the last possible minute. And he gave out chocolate candy at the final exam. However, there was a lot of reading (like 2500 pages of The Story of the Stone) involved.
