Clear in expectations. However, During adaptive music when most of the class didn't get out to observe an adaptive music class in public schools, she unprofessionally asked me if the rest of the class should fail, or what grade they should receive for not doing it. In effect leaving it up to me to determine other student fates.

I appreciated her knowledge, however, it is highly unprofessional to ask a student what she should do with other students who did not complete an assignment. You are the professor, you make the call. Also, forcing a musician to do something they don't want to do when you are advising them, does not earn you any bonus points.

Definitely my most favorite class I've taken at PLU, she's full of knowledge not just music. Her way of style is very effective, all students in class became great friends. And at the end, you wished you have her class again! Most memorable class!

Great prof. Shes crazy...but she is just THAT passionate about music. DONT GET ON HER BAD SIDE aka dont speak when shes speaking...she takes everything personally. PARTICIPATE! What she expects of you is extremely clear so getting an A should not be hard! I just didnt participate enough...i hate being shy lol.

This is probably the most interesting professor I've had so far at PLU. She has high expectations and you have to work hard to get a good grade, but if you love professors who teach out of the box and encourage participation, then she is definitely the one you want for a music class!! It's important to go to class since she grades on participation.

It really depends on the class. Practicum was a waste of time, Adaptive is good thus far, 340 was excellent but Secondary General was stupid. Poppe herself gets really invested, which can be a bonus or a detriment. Takes things VERY personally. Really cares about her students. Interesting and dedicated prof, overall - just don't piss her off.

Poppe knows exactly what she's doing and has a wealth of knowledge. She's fierce though. Keep your brains about you (hard to do, she IS intimidating) and you'll be fine. For all her tough exterior ('show'), she's really a kind woman who cares about all her students, not just the 'stars' - that's a hard quality to find in a prof. Poppe's fabulous.

She is very strict about class policies and very to the point about what she wants from the class. That given she still makes time for fun and by the end of the term you'll wish you could have her again. She was a great first year professor for me and I would send anyone in her direction.

The Big P is awesome! She calls herself a hardass...and she is, but at least you know you're learning something in her class. Learn to figure out when she's full of crap...that happens more when you speak to her face to face. Nonetheless, she's a good teacher. If you want to learn, go to her!
