Dr. Curtain teaches, in my opinion, one of the most difficult English classes. The class itself is hard, so you have to want to do well to actually be able to pull it off. She puts you into groups so that you have people that you can work with outside of class once a week which makes things easier. Very enthusiastic about grammar!!

Required group meetings every week. 1 major paper and 3 exams including final. She insists on using the textbook to teach out of and the book is horrible. Google will be your best friend. Final is basically cumulative. Very confusing. Tough subject. Too bad she's the only teach who teaches this course.

Class was interesting ecept the journals that were due the last week, did not like that presentations focused on other elections rather than the current election. And did not like that we just had one major paper the entire class. Journals and Paper make up 60% of your grade, you better be a wonderful writer, because Dr. Curtin is not that easy

Dr. Curtin is a pretty cool prof. but if you have no interest in politics, wait for another year. On election years, this class consists of watching speeches and reading on the election. There's news journals, a paper, and the midterm and final, and you have to read the book. But it sparks discussion and makes you feel smart when you go vote.

I enjoyed her much more in Topics than History & Theory. Class is all about political rhetoric, and we watched a lot of footage, so the class was even more engaging. Assignments are very easy, and the class is fun. Highly recommended.

Comment:
History & Theory of Rhetoric is a pretty painful class. She gives decent enough notes, but is very confusing when it comes to giving assignments, and what words she prefers for answers on exams. A LOT of material, and she is a bit argumentative when you meet with her on papers.

Nice lady, loves her grammar and shares enthusiasm for a very dry subject, but picky to the extreme and not always clear about what she wants in terms of papers. If you take her class, be prepared to work very, very hard. Made me sign a honor pledge after taking an exam even though she stood right in front of me the whole time!

Grammar is not an easy subject and I struggled at the beginning. Dr. Curtin is very approachable and gave me encouragement to keep trying- and I passed (she was so proud)! The textbook was difficult to use, so definitely take advantage of her office hours! You learn better from her lectures.

Dr. Curtin is one of the most knowledgable and interesting professors in Salisbury's English Department. She knows grammar like the back of her hand and is like a living textbook on the subject. You will come out of her class knowing grammar basics and the intricacies of the subject that will enhance your knowledge of the English language.

Wonderful woman to talk to- she knows her stuff! I would take her class as an upperclassman because her stuff can get really detailed. Make sure you do your reading because the tests and classwork are strictly out from the text

She's a nice professor.... the problem was that some idiot academic counsoler (sp?) recommended me to her class when I was in my Sophmore year. ALWAYS do the assign readings and read what she has on reserve at the library or you will get lost and fail the course.

I find it distressing that one of the other raters can't make a plural without an apostrophe (English teacher's?. Yikes! Dr. Curtin preps you for your exams, and makes a potentially dry subject interesting and meaningful, particularly to those who want to teach after college (I hope the "English teacher's" person isn't one of them!).

Really nice lady. Class material is dense, but you know what is expected of you to do well on exams. My main complaint is that class sometimes feels disorganized/poorly structured. I would still recommend taking her though. She's sweet and funny and totally enthusiastic about the subject matter.

One of the best English teacher's I've had in a long time. I actually learned something from her. She's a bit unorganized and can go off topic sometimes. As long as you do your work and participate, you should be fine.
