With Phonetics, you either get it or you don't. Everyone says this is such a difficult course, but I don't agree. Hester knows what she is talking about and made transcribing so simple for me. Great professor. Whenever I asked her a question she knew exactly how to answer it.

I heard she was a very hard teacher, but she's really not bad! The weekly transcription quizzes are always helpful, and she gives a study guide before every exam. Just keep in mind that rather than going in order by the textbook, she actually goes in order based on the workbook.

Liz Hester is an absolute genius. This causes a gap between what she says in class and what people actually comprehend. Info for tests is not easy to find and most of your time is spent looking for info rather than learning it. Be ready for lots of research and theory. Her style of speaking can be distracting-her intonation fluctuates strangely.

Prof Hester is a very intelligent woman. It was refreshing to finally have a competant prof. Going to class, taking notes, and studying notes in a must for success. I really learned a lot from her. She mixes theory with practical applications quite well.

this was actually my easiest class. hester made it so straight forward, and i got A's on everything. i think the hardest thing for people is the transcription, but if you just listen to the pronunciation and don't stress, it's not so bad. oh, and i've noticed the little lisp she has, too, and i thou

Good teacher, very nice woman. Tough subject anyway. Funny that she is a phonetics teacher and she has some phonological problems in the way she speaks I think. No one else seems to notice. But overall, good teacher.
