Comment:
Professor Montague meant well but could not deliver a single clear lecture. He had unrealistic expectations that included giving difficult piano exams with no instruction on how to play the piano. We had three final exams. We spent three weeks talking about the "tactus" and to this day I have no idea what a tactus is. Please help!!!

Awesome professor! He really knows what he's talking about and is very willing to help you understand something if you don't. Doesn't enjoy tolerating silly people though and grades assignments/tests somewhat arbitrarily.

Comment:
(AKA Punk Music and Practices. The course itself has deceptive title of "Popular Music") Coursework was mind-numbing - that's what happens when you try to make punk seem like some lofty art-form. Not a terrible course; not an intellectually stimulating one, either. Most classmates were intolerable scenesters that had little respect for the teacher.

Oh, yes, I was the crazy person who decided to do an independent study with Montague. And to my suprise, it turned out well. Montague used to be my least favorite teacher, but I have an insane amount of respect for him now. He encourages his students to be individuals, which is unique at our gigantic university. He's a great mentor and person.

Excellent Professor. Extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of music theory. He is resourceful and is always willing to help a student in need. His lessons are fun and creative. Uses some group work, but lectures are easy to follow. Show uo to class and do the work and you will get an A.

While a brilliant man who knows his subject, Montague is not a great teacher. His explanations were quite hard to follow, and class quite hard to stay awake in. I beleive I would have learned the subject better and easier had he been a better teacher. He is onewho can do; not one who can teach.

I've taken almost every class he teaches here, and he's a great teacher. His favorite phrase is, "well, that's a possibility." His thought process is abstract, so he's not for concrete thinkers. But he *cares* about his students (and their success) more than any other professor I know.

Very nice but can't teach. He is rambling and unclear. One of the nicest prefessors I've ever had, but students walk out of his classes more confused than when they walked in. If you can get a different professor for the course, do so.

He just makes me smile in every class. He is such a sweet, kind-hearted, funny guy, but also super-knowledgable. I love his accent and I think he covers potentially boring topics well. He makes me interested in the material because it is so apparent that HE really likes the material. Good teacher!

He is very intelligent. Be prepared to do your homework and you will leave his class, a more deep thinker about analysis. You'll read articles that plundge your mind into avenues you never knew existed. Very, very, interesting.
