Frank was an absolute nightmare to work with. If you aren't on top of the ball in class, be ready for him to call you out. He does not accept questions during class time, and he is not usually willing to meet with you outside of office hours. He allows you to miss 5 classes, but after that your grade takes a major hit.

Mr. Mariner is an overall effective teacher, but he expects a lot out of students. You will get a lot better at speaking french in the heat of the moment because he does a lot of putting students on the spot.

Comment:
Frank can be very particular in how his class performs and expects everyone to care as much as he does, which is not always practical. Definitely not a jerk, but not the warmest or fuzziest person at all times. If you don't care or try, he definitely doesn't either. But if you're serious, he can be a very good teacher.

He is very intimidating and mean. He makes me want to never take french again. If you did not take french in high school, good luck! He likes to pick on the students that are struggling . Lots of class participation points but he decides how much you are participating. I would NOT recommend taking this class!

I would rather shove a pencil through my eye than go to his class. Students do the homework out of fear. He is super short with students, doesn't allow questions in class. He speaks really fast just to show off and he's an unfair grader. Overall, don't take a class with him, he should not be teaching.

Worst Professor at ISU. I absolutely hated this man. I will never take another french class from him as long as I live. I would switch colleges before I took another class from Frank. I am majoring in French and I tell you what, there are so many better teachers than him.

He is the worst professor I have ever had at ISU. He talks down to his students and is a horrible failure in the classroom, despite the fact that he tries, perhaps overprepares. He just does not know how to connect with humans.

the class I took isn't difficult if you attend the discussions and read the material (a few times over) but Frank is very particular in the way things are done. also, he can be rude to students when they don't grasp the concept he's getting at. but he knows the subject extremely well and is a nice guy if you are trying to understand the class.

He likes things done a certain way and can seem to be surprisingly bothered when things don't go according to plan. However, once you accept those things about him, you will discover a professor who is passionate about his subject matter and eager to share his knowledge and enthusiam. Idiosyncratic, but great.

Thank God I'm done with this class... I couldn't stand Frank anymore! I didn't feel comfortable coming to him with questions. Instead of helping us out he just expected us to rattle things off from the top of our heads and if we didn't know it he'd give this really evil glare.

Terrifying. Rude to students and unnecessarily unkind. You will learn if only because you'll be too scared of his barbed comments and patronising smile not to do so. This man should not be teaching an introductory level course.

I can't speak for the other students who unfortunately had bad experiences with this guy, but I think he's a pretty amazing professor. His class is very challenging, but I felt a true sense of mastery of the material afterwards. Highly recommended.

He is not a good teacher. His tests are next to impossible to get A's on, he is not very helpful when you don't understand a concept, and he has this awful condescending smile.
