Comment:
"Dr. BJ" is a boring, incomprehensible lecturer and a crappy discussion leader. Her grading is completely ineffective at at evaluating your comprehension of the readings. Also, I haven't had that much text read aloud to me in class since grade school. Another proffesor who had outlived her usefulness to the university.

Had her in Fall '97. Literally butchered every piece of writing I submitted, but I will admit, she was very helpful when I went to visit her during office hours. I was hoping some of that Yale-infused intelligence would rub off on the class, but nope...Not a drop. Transferred to (and finished) at DePaul University and have no regrets.

She is a very caring teacher who will drop everything to help you out; however, she is a very harsh grader especially with grammar because she is a former editor. If your writing is not strong, either improve quickly, or avoid the consequences. Interesting discussions, if you have the time to invest into this class.

I have to echo the other reviews here and say that she IS very helpful if you ask. For that, she deserves a lot of credit. Where she falls short as an instructor is the ridiculous amount of plays covered in the course. I mean FIVE in a 14 wk period? Come ON! People have OTHER classes!

I thought she was a great teacher. She was hard on the class which was a bummer sometimes but if you went to her office hours she was a huge help in anything you needed. The work was easy so long as you kept up with the assignments.

If you do poorly, it's your own fault. Blames class for low test scores, while refusing to acknowledge own shortcomings. Can be very condescending and hypocritical, especially when she chastised students for missing class when her absences outnumbered many of them. She's Yale-educated, but she never shows off what she knows. And you wish she would.

She's very smart(& sweet), but does not relay her knowledge. Lectures were incoherent, boring, and did not delve into the text(except on 1 or 2 occasions). Time was spent on scansion, not actual Shakespeare. A's throughout, then the unfair/ridiculous final ruined it. Watch out for that final!

Avoid at all costs. She is well beyond the age of retirement, her grading is harsh (this coming from a generally well-received writer), and her lectures are positively incoherent. Clearly she is a respectable academic, but as a professor, she does not connect with her students.

Really knowledgable, but not very fair. Despite receiving straight A's in her course, I randomly got a B as my final grade. When I politely questioned her about it, she refused to respond, claimimg she "didn't have access to her grade book."

Had this prof. for Shakespeare. Picked the WORST material possible and if I hadn't read Shakespeare before, I probably would have hated it if this class was my intro to it. Boring presentation, confusing, very random grading.
