Be prepared to read and answer questions daily. Lets you turn in multiple essays before the due date so he can tell you changes that need to be made before you submit them. The tests are based directly off of the notes and discussions. The class is tough and time consuming, but the professor is very helpful if you are willing to put in effort.

I've never gotten anything but A's in English while in college until Dr. Giddings. My first paper he slapped me with a F and didn't really give a good feed back on what was wrong. His test gotten easier over time just be aware he ask a lot of questions from his online discussion boards. I still can't figure out what he wanted on my papers.

If you're looking to maintain a good GPA, do not take him. I'm a 3.5+ student and will likely leave his class with a low C. His ways of teaching grammar and such seem to be the opposite of what the rest or the world does. Always seemed as if I was right on something or wrote something good, it was never good enough. Would not recommended!

What a LEGEND! Seriously one of the funniest, wittiest professors at MSU. I enrolled in both of his freshman comp. classes, the second part being over the summer. You get out what you put in. Every negative comment describes the professor plus more. Had several opinions on my papers and still made a C. I have a 4.0 at MSU right now and this class is likely to hurt me. He is very negative and downgrading to students. Does not clarify his grading. Disrespectful does not even explain this man towards students. Very disappointed.

Extremely hard grader and does not provide clear feedback! Taking his class over summer is the worst decision as he admits himself this class is accelerated and we need to be ready to work but HE is NOT READY TO TEACH at the same accelerated level! Frustrating!

Though Dr. Giddings is a tough grader, I will never regret taking his class, even if it resulted in my first B in an English course. I learned so much about how I write and how I like to write because of having to write his way. And that's pretty much what college is about. If you want an easy A and don't care about actually learning, stay away.

I loved this professor. As long as you follow his specific guidelines, you'll pass with flying colors. He gives every student to option to turn in their papers early to be reviewed then he gives them back so that they can be revised before the final paper is due. If you fail, it's your own fault.

I have never gotten below a B on a paper. I made an A in every high school English and college English class before I took Giddings. My first paper got a C in which he completely ripped my work apart with negative, non-constructive comments. The next two assignments got D's. Eventually had to drop and take online with a different prof. AVOID!!!

I honestly thought he was the best professor I have had so far. He grades hard, but fairly because he explains what he expects. And quite honestly he doesn't expect a lot. Don't expect to get and A. But it is definitely possible. I feel my writing has greatly improved because of him.

I am not the best writer, but have been a B to low A student through college. My spouse, who's never received less than an A on any essay, assisted me with some of the material, and Giddings found the syntax too confusing and awarded a C all semester. Funny because he had two other doctoral prof's review some papers and say an A- at the very least.

Cool guy with cool stories, not a good teacher. It's his way or the highway. I spent plenty of effort writing my first paper. Had the writing lab review it, then I took it back to him and he showed me what to fix. He graded the paper and gave me a C. DO NOT take if trying to make an A. Students trying to get into med/law school STAY AWAY.

Most arrogant teacher I've ever had. He treats people like their incapable of understanding higher level things. He acts like he thinks he's God. He makes jokes and then explains them to you like you're five years old and the not so funny joke went over your head. His class is one of the worst classes I've taken. I would never recommend him.

I enjoyed this class. I came from a newspaper editor position in high school so already knew the basics of writing. I received As on all of my papers. You read a lot of short stories, but they are interesting. You take a quiz over all of them, but the quizzes are detail based. Don't Google the plot and expect to pass the quiz. He's a good teacher.

This professor is the worst one I've ever had!!!!!!! Do not expect to make a good grade in his class. Yeah, you don't have to write a lot of papers but you have to read a ton of short stories and take HARD quizzes on them. He grades his essays so hard and if your opinion differs from him it's wrong! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
