First of all, he is VERY boring. He's always saying, "Um," "at any rate," and "across the board." If you can get past that, you'll be find. There's alot to read, but as long as you pay attention to lecture you really don't need to read it. Easy class, but boring teacher.

He teaches the way college was meant to be taught...with lecture and notes. Complex topics don't need powerpoints. He can be dry and redundant, but it's an interesting class. Show up, take the notes and you'll be fine

This class is extremely hard, and I have studied so much for it. Some people say it's possible to get an A, but from what I've seen in my class that has yet to happen. He's a nice guy, and will help you if you need it. Just pay attention, and take really good notes. His tests aren't impossible, but they are hard so study, and you'll be fine.

The worst teacher I have ever had! He rambles all the time and tells you his personal thoughts on everything (including the military and the war) be perpared to write down everything and to hate him. He never lets out early and is of no help when you ask questions. Also on the three books you read outside of the text always say the book was great

Be prepared to take notes on every word Dr. Guzman says or else you'll fail every test. Some things I thought were very minor and didn't write down yet were on the tests. Makes it extremely tough & grades harder than an English professor on written assignments. You also have to read a ton in addition to the actual text book. A B grade is impossible

There was no textbook in this class because no one else in the world pretty much teaches this class. It was fairly interesting even though it was all taking notes. Tests are pretty tough; just go to class every day and study your notes, and you'll be fine.

terrible lecturer in a pure lecture class. doesn't answer questions well, and believes he is right and absolutely hates to be challenged. essays on test graded tough. you either stick it out and (apparently) get an A, or you fail or you drop. hardest i ever studied for the first test, for two weeks, still failed. he even says that many will fail.

He reallly knows his stuff, but the class is 100% lecture. there is little to no interaction or discussion. if you read and take clear notes you'll be fine. although, the tests are tedious.

Though it's been a couple years, this class was by far the easiest class one can take at Bradley (w/ the possible exception of Survey of Art History). Just go to class every week, take decent notes, and feign interest. Guzman knows his stuff.

He treats his students like adults, there is no extra credit in the real world, don't expect in a University classroom either. You are graded on your knowledge. So if you are not lazy, you will do fine in this course, he is a great teacher that will help his students learn more any way he can, you just have to ask for help.

He is the dept. head, he got his doctorate in midieval studies. I am a history major, and I thought this class was too hard. Don't plan on gettin an A, unless you know exactly what to write on the test (there are only 3, all essay), you will do poorly. I busted my butt and I still got a high C.

It's a history class!! Lectures are boring at times, but emphasizes some very interesting concepts. Quizzes and exams are not impossible, he gives you a handout with exactly what is going to be on the exams. fair class. show up and you could get an A with fair effort. This is BU, you have to study no matter what. In the Top 5 in MW

Class is very hard. Too much information in one semester. He is very knowledgeable but teaches the class at a senior level. Does not believe in extra credit. Grade is based on quizzes and tests. He treats students like history should be the most important class and gives homework like it is the only class the student is taking. Would not recommend.

This teacher just likes to hear himself. He lectures the whole time. Even when you take the tests all he is looking for are his own words. If you don't write word for word what he said then you are pretty much screwed. I hated this class and he was terrible. Also he is a really hard grader.

Alot of people think this class is hard, but I think it was very fair. It's an upper level history class so you can expect to read and write alot. Lectures were dry at times but insightful. I've learned alot in this class. Take it if you are interested in learning about ancient civilizations.
