I absolutely loved taking this professor. I found her to be very invested in what she was teaching, and easy to engage with. Quizzes are not very hard as long as you study. The only bad thing I have to say is that class was early in the morning.

I took Professor Zhang twice, Summer and Fall 2017. She is very nice, highly knowledgeable about Chinese history, and gives great lectures. She has a good sense of humor and laughs a lot. Her class is difficult but completely manageable if you read the books. There will be a 10-page paper and the exams are online. Highly recommend.

All books are required, but most were reasonably priced and informative. The material was interesting and presented in a way that was engaging. Objectivity matters a lot when you write about the subject to her. Writing heavy, but taught a lot about another culture. Keeping an eye open for more of her classes next year.

She basically said "here read the book" and that was the class. Easy to pass if you do what she says and take notes, but make sure you manage your time since its a lot of reading. Her book report/review books were actually good and enjoyable so try them out. I would recommend study groups for her online classes since there really is no instruction.

Dr. Zhang is amazing! Her courses require a lot of work, especially online, but this is upper-level, so get used to it. Read the books she assigns: 1 book review & 1 book report. Definitely study for the tests, they can be pretty difficult but very doable. She takes attendance, so go to class! Advice: take good notes during lectures! Ask questions.

Dr. Zhang is one of my favorite professors at UCF. She is very clear with her expectations and is a fair grader. Expect to work for your A. There will be books to read and papers to write, such is the subject of History. Her online classes are a lot of work, but the material is interesting & you will gain a much better understanding of the subject

Dr. Zhang has clear expectations for students. She will answer your questions if needed. You will be required to do lots of reading in order to be able to do the homework. It was a very interesting class and I would take Dr. Zhang again.

There is a LOT of reading and a LOT of writing (normal for online classes), but you also learn a LOT which is great for such a broad subject matter. Professor Zhang is a hard grader, but she gives amazing and insightful feedback that relates to the quizzes. Make sure to pay attention to the key terms and learning objectives in each module!!

For History Majors this will be your favorite professor. Dr. Zhang is highly knowledgeable and will communicate if she sees your scores start to slip. You WILL read and write A LOT but out of all the teachers I've had for history courses Dr. Zhang had taught me the most practical knowledge. Her classes fill quick so register asap.

Expect a lot of readings and papersdiscussion posts. There are 3 quizzes that are based on the readings. The class isn't an easy A, but if you put forth the effort you'll get an A. The class it self was interesting and the material was enjoyable!

Dr. Zhang is a tough grader. The workload of her class was intense! Granted Chinese Civilization is a tough topic to tackle, but this was the hardest class I have ever taken. She gives a very minimum amount of feedback on papers. The only reason I would see to take this class would be, if you have a light workload and LOVE the topic!

Dr. Zhang's classes were very enjoyable. I had a hard time balancing all the classes I had this semester so I got a C in Japan and a B in China, but if I had more time I would have gotten A's. The readings were enjoyable and the papers were always easy to write. The tests are pretty easy if you actually study for them, devote time to these classes.

I loved this class! I had to take this for my major, which I dreaded, but this class was interesting, and if you put in the work, an easy A! Follow the modules and at least skim the readings and you can't fail. She is so nice and friendly, I recommend her to all my friends!

Took History of Southeast Asia with Zhang online. Very interesting course, but absolutely no modules. All the writing assignments came directly from the books, but she grades fairly and gives excellent feedback. Would take again.

Comment:
This was a very tough course, but I can't believe how much I learned about Chinese history in just one semester. Zhang is a sensational teacher who is knowledgeable, hilarious, clear and objective. Again, there's a lot of work, but the material is fascinating and her style and presentation of teaching is fresh and captivating. Highly recommended.
