Dr. Garihan is a very nice and enthusiastic professor, but his tests are very challenging because you must memorize every detail, definition, and diagram. Study very, very hard if you want to take his class! Not an easy class at all, but I learned a lot.

Comment:

Dr. Garihan is a really enthusiastic professor, and loves what he does. However, this class was extremely hard. Tests require you to recall dozens of tiny details. He does not do a great job of answering questions and his lectures can drag on. If you have a serious interest in geology and are willing to very work hard, take this class.

It's hard not to like Dr. Garihan. He's always happy to be in class and has a fun personality. However, his class is tough. He lectures for the entire time and has very little class participation. Also, his tests are pretty hard, and your grade in the class rides on five tests(although he eases up on the last 2). Go for it if you're willing to work

Dr. Garihan is a WONDERFUL professor. He is very knowledgeable about geology, and is very eager to pass his knowledge on. I have absolutely loved being in his class, but I could see how he would be an overwhelming professor for intro. Overall a great guy!!

Excellent teacher who is very knowledgeable in his subject area, and dedicated to teaching his students. Assignments and tests can be tough, but he does this to motivate students to learn. If you study hard, you will be rewarded.

Dr. Garihan is great. Hes such a nice guy, and does not seem as pretenious as the rest of the teachers here. He is also very willing you help you if you need it. His tests, however, are unfairly difficult, and very random. He does, however, try to help you out. I would probably take him again.

Great guy, Ridiculous Tests. The lectures were boring at best and some days following his train of thought was next to impossible. The labs were enjoyable (albeit frustrating) but I'm sure there are better classes and professors at Furman.

AWFUL CLASS. Many people in my class dropped or withdrew, myself included. His tests are ridiculously hard, and the questions are VERY OBSCURE. Nice guy. Awful class.

Had to drop this class because I was on the verge of failing, and i was seriously trying. His lectures are extremely boring, and his notes on the board make no sense. Half of my class ended up dropping before midterm. The tests are absolutely impossible, and I have no idea where he pulls the stuff from that he tests you on.

Out of his freaking mind. When you're sitting bored in his class, his weirdness can be kind of entertaining- until you get your first test back. His tests are insane; the questions are unpredictable and only the most stellar answers will receive full credit. Do NOT take him winter term!

He is an amazingly enthusiastic teacher. I am definitely not a rock person, but he really made me enjoy coming to class. His enthusiasm, even at 9 in the morning rubs off on you. His tests are hard, but it's stuff you've seen and he is very fair.
