He is an interesting professor who cares about his students a lot. His class is fairly simple: present 5 speeches with decent effort and preparation. Be prepared to take quizzes since they can either improve or hinder your grade. But, I strongly recommend his class for those who need Speech 1A taken care of.

Pretty easy class, 5 speeches but there's two impromptu's so it's technically 6. He doesn't follow the syllabus, so just do exactly what he says in class. Tests and quizzes are fairly easy long as you've been paying attention.

Professor Buckalew was NOT fit to teach a 7:30AM class session. He has a very monotone voice during lectures which made half the class fall asleep. He gave us grammar tests, which was irrelevant to the class? Book wasnt necessary. I could've saved that money! Not recommended BUT if it becomes your last resort, feel free to take him.

Buckalew is the sweetest little old man. He's so cute, and pretty darn funny for an older gentleman. His speech class is very laid back and easy. Don't really need the book, just pay attention to his lectures. Everything on the tests and quizzes are in his lectures. 5 speeches which are a breeze. You can't not love Buckalew.

AMAZING!! Amazing is the only word that describes him...very clear..very charismatic..and your 5 speech topics are the things you want to ramble on everyday..it was just a wonderful summer experience..incredible professor..you'll love..I guarantee it..

awesome teacher. really nice, and class is totally easy, took it for summer session, & only 5 speeches. i was totally scared speaking in front of the class, but by the end, i was totally fine. he explains everything well, and shows some funny movies about speech.

He was very interesting. He always talked about his journalism days plus his voice is made to make car commercials. Everything is easy. One time he made a joke and no one got it, so it took him five minutes to explain his joke. Ha!

Teacher knows what he is talking about. Very informative as a lecturer. Book is not needed, just take notes. Tests are not what I would expect, they ask questions which seem to focus on certain areas too strongly while leaving out other areas completely. The quizes in all their forms are a bit ridiculous.

Jour 2 with Buckalew has been a very unpleasant experience. His syllabus is all off-date, he offered very little extra credit that was easy to earn, didn't give enough opportunities to raise your grade, and wrote something on my midterm that hurt me. I don't recommend him. There is too much in-class work as well that wasn't easy for me.

He's a nice teacher, even though he's kinda boring. His class isn't hard but it's speech, so it's nerve wrecking. He is as helpful as he can be.
