Comment:

I'll admit this class took a little bit of getting used to. I absolutely hated sitting through his lectures at first because they weren't (still aren't) connected to the book. He quizzes over the book and has written exams over lecture, so if you can get over that, the class is just fine. Lectures do drag on sometimes but taking good notes helps.

I am honestly baffled that anybody could make a class entitled "The History of Magic and Witchcraft" boring. I have never been less interested in a history course in my life. Lecture is rambly and generally useless, and exams are over material that was never discussed in lecture. If I could time travel I would nope right out of this class - run.

Arbitrary grading on paper and quizzes with little to know feedback. You can write a paper and fix the problem you had in the last paper and you get the same grade. Refuses to give an A. This class was on THE HISTORY OF MAGIC AND WITCHCRAFT! Should've been an easy A.

Comment:

Professor Farr definitely knows his information, but struggles to relay it to his students. He basically gives you the exam questions to study for, but you never know if you're putting the correct answers. If you are taking 104 or any other class he teaches, I would take it with a different professor if you're expecting a high grade.

So he definitely knows his stuff & is smart about all things history, but the lectures drag on (especially in a power hour). Don't take this unless you're prepared for him to be barking a ton of info at you for an hour & 15 min. The papers are decent & exams are essays, but require so much specific info, include everything !!

Attendance not mandatory but you will not do well if you do not attend class. Pay attention, take good notes, and read the books/do study guides and you will do just fine. He does at times like to ramble and its nearly impossible to get an A on anything. Usually an 89 is as high as he will go. Overall pretty good class.

Wow I can't believe that someone succeeded in making history boring for me. He takes twenty minutes to make a point that I could understand in 1 minute. It's unbearable. He's also one of those professors that just refuses to give out A's and is a really hard grader.

I took his 403 class a few years ago and I really enjoyed it and learned a lot. Someone rated him as pompous then and he actually asked us about it. Haha! It had never occurred too me until he brought it up. I don't think he is. He was really smart, really nice, and a good lecturer. And nice eye-candy, if you can crane your neck that high.

He's not pompous--he just has a personality that comes off that way. He is extremely helpful and really loves teaching. He was so into teaching, a girl threw up in the room during his lecture and he didn't even notice...it was so weird.

He was very good at explaining things and even though I took it during the summer, I still understood everything. Before the final he was really helpful for any questions that anybody had. Very good professor!!
