His class is heavily curved so you can miss a lot of points. exam 1 + 2 are very easy, exam 3 was a little more challenging. do the optional homework cuz his quizzes come straight from there. an A is totally doable if you're willing to put a little amount of work into the class. one of the GREATEST professors i've had. guy really knows his stuff.

Dr. Doering was really nice and very knowledgeable and he made the information pretty easy to understand. Powerpoints were clear and he gives homework that isn't turned in but has good practice problems. His tests were difficult but his quizzes were easy. Don't buy the textbook, but you do need MasteringGenetics

An A is an 84 in his class. That about sums it up. Its a pretty easy A if you don't miss lecture. The content gets progressively harder, but he makes that very obvious. Weekly mastering genetics for free points and sporadic quizzes which are exact, verbatim copies of his practice quizzes. Just do his homework and you will pass.

Genetics is not easy, but it is not impossible to get an A. 81% is an A- and an 86% is an A. The class is not weighted so all points earned are equal. Mastering is worth half an exam, and 6 quizzes (20 points each) are worth an exam. 2 exams and a noncumulative final. Genetics requires a lot of effort, but it's doable. I would take him again.

1. The base line of A is 86% 2. Amazing lecturer; very intellectual and knows what information to deliver as he is answering the questions; HE MADE ME LOVE GENETICS. 3. Will help "as long as you reach him first." 4. Genetics itself is not easy. 5. Don't miss lectures& discussions, he often goes in depth of the topics and outside of the textbook.

Dr. Doering is brilliant! The class was pretty difficult, but he warns his students of this at the beginning. He's helpful in office hours, but a little removed. He's been teaching for awhile, and not looking to destroy your GPA. Very kind and funny and a great lecturer. Highly recommend!

Do all of the mastering assignments, they are very helpful. Know the homework problems VERY well (a lot of quiz questions come straight from them). Go to every lecture, take notes, and record the lectures. The first test was easy, the second was very difficult, and the third test was okay. Put in the time, and an A is very doable.

Doering is an amazing professor. He is a very good lecturer and keeps the class interested. His quizzes aren't too bad because they're straight from the homework but knowing the homework is key. Tests are extremely tough but if studied enough aren't horrendous.

Doctor Doering is VERY helpful when you ask him questions. His tests are mostly lecture based. I would recommend reading the book if concepts are a little difficult to understand. Overall, I enjoyed the class and would definitely take him for any advanced genetics course!

His tests are really hard, but the percentage you need for an A was the lowest of any class I've taken, so he can make it much more rigorous without killing your GPA. Helpful, responsive, understanding, and fair by email. A bit condescending in class. (Also, previous reviewers mention extra credit, but we weren't offered any.) Take him!

Exams are really tough but he's really clear in lectures and the homework helps a lot. Extra credit and goes over questions in discussions. Just do homework and study lecture and you should do fine. Book isn't really necessary-too many details and it'll get you confused.

Great professor. Exams are straight from lectures and the homework. They're a bit tough but fair and there's a curve. In the end, you can receive up to 30 extra credit points. I failed my first exam (2 midterms and the final) and ended with an A.

Great guy. Class is pretty straight forward. Covers material well enough in lecture so that reading the book is unnecessary. I'd suggest recording lectures because that's what you will be tested on. Tests are tricky, but there's a nice curve to go along with it. Highly suggest taking him.

He is one of my favorite professors at loyola. His class is not that hard. All his questions come from the homework which he gives answers to. As long as you do the homework and understand it, getting an A isn't very hard. And usually there's a pretty nice curve that helps with it. I loved this class and he made me really love genetics.

STAY AWAY! He is horrible. Teaches using powerpoints, have quizes that if you make one mistake you loose 5 points. his tests are extremely hard and very detailed. He is not nice--I said good moringing few times and he never replied, very annoying with hos jokes from which no one laughs at.

Very smart man. He may come off as condescending, but he is really nice if you get to know him. This class is difficult so you will have to put in some time to really learn the material. He expects you to know it inside out. He has 6 quizzes and drops the lowest, 2 exams, and 1 non-comprehensive final. He curves a little so an A is usually an 85+

if you have to take this class DON'T TAKE IT WITH HIM.. he's really rude and he thinks he's king of the world b/c he's dept. head.. doesn't give clear answers when you e-mail him.. compared to other teachers he makes this class/exams waaaaay too hard than they should be.. have to work really hard to get a good grade.. just take with another teacher

Although he was a good professor and did cover a lot of pertinent material, he was very condescending. He made it hard for you to ask questions in class without feeling helpless and stupid. Even going to his office hours was intimidating. Overall, his tests and homework assignments are fair. But, he has an attitude that he's better than everyone.
