Don't need the textbook for class, but do need the two supplementary books for reading. Attend class, take notes on the lists he gives you and prepare the essays he gives you. If you prepare essays and study them, in addition to studying the ID list, you will get an A in his class. He is very straight forward and a gracious grader.

This class is difficult, but if you take his advice and prepare essays and word lists weekly, it will help you in preparation for the mid term and final. THe mid term and the final are the only grades in the class, so be cautious. He's a funny guy and tries to make the topic interesting.

Come to class and make sure you re-read your translation every night or you will do bad on the tests. The tests are mostly translation so make sure you know them. I am an A student and I got an A in the class - just make sure you know the translation.

Dr. Clack is the best! I work in the classics department so I see a different side of him. He will help anyone at anytime, this is not his original career it's his hobby. so don't be fooled.

He is a hard teacher, but makes outrageous comments in class that gives the class a booster. If you enjoy ancient history material, then you'll like him as a professor. I wouldnt advise to take him as a core or elective class to fill requirements...

Many people complain how hard he is as a profesor or unclear and unhelpful. But you have to know how to pay attention in his class. He gives out class checklists...every lecture you know what his is going to cover...and he gives out the possible essay questions for the midterm and final...also he gives a word-list for the tests. he's a good prof.

Dr. Clack is simply unhelpful, unclear, and uncertain as to how he administers his class. Looking back, I did not miss a single class, fulfilled all the assignments, and took a serious approach to his course material. As a senior who never failed in 3 1/2 years, he was the first person to give me an F. Dont take him.

I love greek mythology so I decided to take Greek history. His class turned me away from greek anything. I hated the class because you only have 2 tests and he gives you A LOT of information. I wouldnt recommend this class to anyone. Clack is a nice proff, but his class is unorganized and a big NO if you dont absolutely love greek history.

Looking back on my college experience, I wish i could have taken more classics classes overall, as most everyone in the department was helpful and friendly, albeit with some very tough classes. Take them for knowledge, not for an easy A.

I've taken him for Roman Principate. He's hard. Just the way he teaches doesn't sit with most people well. If you've never had him before it's almost expected that you fail his first test--there's only two tests.

As far as Classics majors go, I consider Clack to be fairly easy. His classes are very lax and, since they tend to have a fewer students, very friendly and close-knit. One time, he even brought a pizza into class.
