Comment:

He is a great man and he clearly loves this subject which is nice when it comes to lectures and what not. If you don't understand something go ask him he is more than willing to help literally everyone! Also, if you are going through things talk to him, he's super understanding. Overall, I would take a class with him but not this course again.

Comment:

Although he seems like a nice person personally, he is an awful grader. Although I did all the reading and was very prepared for an oral exam, I still got an awful grade because he has outlandish expectations. Also he grading scale, on a 4.0 scale like GPA, makes absolutely no sense in regards to things being weighed differently. Avoid!

Man is awful teacher. I took his Religious Imagination class and has no assignment dates until he mentions it at the end of the semester and it is loaded with material. His lectures are boring as hell talking about elves and weird info for an hour and a half. Would not take a class with this man. EVER AGAIN!

John Eby is one of the most respectable professionals at Loras College. His teaching calliber and intellect are not only impressive but inspirational and truly life changing. This man is a mentor and role model for so many, with kindness and patience that is unmatched. He is a deep thinker, which makes classroom discussion difficult & stimulating

Eby is a genius. He is truly passionate about his students and their learning. He doesn't hold well to students who don't try, and doesn't like excuses. Honesty and hard work are the best policy for his classes. He can come across as harsh, but only someone who didn't understand how highly he values learning would think he was mean.

Dr. Eby is my favorite professor! He is one of the most caring people you will meet. It is easy to tell that he really loves teaching, and loves history. He is not only my advisor, but a friend. Plus, his hair is SO COOL!

You can tell when he's really into a topic. And. He. Was. He brought his kids in to play music, we looked at a huge range of media, assignments were geared toward not only developing skills of writing and arguing, but really understanding another perspective on the human experience. and who doesn't love a sweater vest?!

he's pretty much a genius and is really creative when it comes to teaching strategy. you can suggest anything and he'll consider it. our class went for a walk around Dubuque while we talked about the reading. He pretty much walks you through anything you don't understand and his discussion questions will make you rethink your view of the world.

Mullet aside, he's very intelligent and knows what he's doing. He'll usually help if you need it. You'll learn a lot from him as long as you pay attention, and put lots of time and energy into his classes. You really don't even have to suck up, just show him respect and he'll do the same.
