Possibly my best history teacher at BYU. He really knows his stuff and teaches in a way that makes sense. I was taking another history class that talked about the same stuff and never made sense but I went to Hall's class and within 5 min he cleared everything up. Need to take very good notes and read the book and play the game. And go to class.

Dr. Hall is the most brilliant man I have ever met. His understanding of history is so deep. Furthermore, when he teaches about early Christianity it is so clear and you really understand why we have so many churches and what when wrong back in the day.

This class was really interesting and a staple for understanding Rome. The textbook is often boring, but it's important to have the background info-read the textbook for class, then just study from your notes for exams. Also, PLAY THE GAME! It was AWESOME and it really helps you understand what Rome was like after Caesar died-and it's extra credit!

I loved this class, though it was not easy. The lectures are important and YOU MUST DO THE READING! Dr. Hall really knows his stuff. Not only did I learn a lot, but this class definitely strengthened my testimony. 2 tests-midterm and final, both timed essays, research paper, and class participation make up your grade. Not for the faint-hearted.

If you go to class, take good notes, go to the review and play the game, then the class isn't that hard. Very full of himself, but a great teacher with a lot of knowledge and passion on the subject.

I was reallly worried going into this 200 level class as a freshmen, i talked to prof hall and he told me the truth, take notes and read your book and you will be fine. Take alot of notes in class, and know all of them for tests, which are in class essay's. all n' all very fair, TA's reviews were very helpful, Strongly sugest going to "the game"

Dr. Hall really knows his stuff. Very interesting classes because he knows so much. He does get annoyed when people ask questions. Expects you to know a lot, esp through the readings. Three tests ; none comprhensive, but all are essay and pretty tough. I'll say that you do learn a lot from Dr. Hall, but expect a C to B grade. Its not easy.

I was disappointed in Dr. Hall. I was looking forward to taking the Roman History class, and he seemed more interested in talking about how superior he was. The tests are hard because it is unclear what is being asked of you. He goes through material very fast and gets annoyed if you ask too many questions. The book is very difficult to read.

Hall incorporates a lot of fascinating Early Christian history. Tests are intimidating but fair & cover mostly lectures. Attend class, pay attention & you will pass. STRONGLY recommend The Game--be bold & it will earn you extra credit. This class was hard, but one of my fav's at BYU so far. Highly recommended.

He knows a lot about what he teaches, and goes into a lot of depth. It was the most interesting class that I've taken! There's a lot of reading, but it's all interesting and he explains it very well in his lectures. You'll learn a lot about Rome and Early Christianity, about a lot of misunderstood things and where a lot of our culture comes from

Really hard but he knows his stuff! He tells great stories about his trips to Rome. I Adored his class even though I didn't do well. Almost failed but he said he wouldn't let me fail and he gave me a D-. Great, funny guy! Hard work, though.

Really cocky, knows a lot but completely unopen to any ideas besides his own. Tests are fairly moderate all essay tests. Doesn't require any papers. Tends to have favorites in the class and you can tell he rewards them when you play the Roman History in Action game by giving them tons of extra credit.
