class is not mandatory. And the stuff that is "taught" in class is just full of his bias views. Hates Temple (he will tell you this!) He is the reason why tenures get bad rep. He has that now so they can't force him to leave so he what ev. When great teachers un tenured. Go figure. The TAs do everything from emails to grading. He is useless.

As stated by everybody else, attendance is not necessary AT ALL except on video days. This is a DIY class, go and read the book, come in on video days, write 4 papers, take 2 tests, and you're done. Be careful with this one, the lack of attention that this class deserves will really smack you the day before the mid/final. read + write = A

Prof Lent was ...pretty boring not going to lie. The first day he said everything he taught in class would not be on the test. I never went to the lectures. Pointless.We had to do 4 papers on 4 out of 7 videos he showed. I did well on the papers and the exam came straight from book. Exams arent hard. I would take again.

Completely BS, useless class. However it is easy to pass. You don't have to go to class EXCEPT ON THE VIDEO DAYS. Just write good papers on the videos (there's 4 papers on your choice of 7 videos), and read about a chapter a week in the textbook and you'll be fine.

The title for the course is "popular culture". Professor Lent does not teach popular culture. He teaches you comic books and asian culture. so if you're interested in that and want to write a huge paper - take it. but if you're expecting to discuss and learn about whats ACTUALLY popular in our culture, then this is going to be a huge waste of time.

He is extremelyyyy boring and rude. His lectures have nothing to do with the test (that are HARD) so theres no point in going to class except for the movies that are mandatory. He has unrealistic wants from our papers and doesnt care about any of his students. (And yes, he clearly hates Temple. he'll tell you)

Not a bad dude just weird. Loves comics and a lot of other stuff and seemingly hates Temple. 2 assignments due all semester so just do them and it's not that bad but lectures are a bore when you have no use for them

Lent is a waste of time. Midway through the semester he tells us that the tests will be all on the book and nothing from the discussion, so whats the point in going to class? The TA's really run this class. He's crazy and boring, but attend the film days (or just rent the films) and do the papers and read the book by yourself and you'll be fine.

He was the worst teacher I ever had in college. The class was a waste of my money. He needs to quit because he tells the class how much he hates Temple so why is he still teaching! He has no structure. It could have been a very good class. His teaching style consists of statements full of cursing and opinionated points of view. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!

lent will help u change the way you view the media. he really knows what he is talking about, but it can get a little boring. if u pay attention you will b able to pick up on his sense of humor( hes a very funny guy). if ur really interested in the topic take lent, but if ur not i would advise to find another prof.

If you read the book and come to half of the lectures this class is a breeze. Lent is an extremely intelligent man and he understands that half the students do not want to be there anyway. However, he still makes lectures interesting if you are actually interested to begin with. If you're not, you will fall alseep.

Lent is the type of guy you immediately respect as soon as you start to listen to him. He knows his stuff and tells it like it is. Easy to fall asleep during his lectures sometimes. Knowledgable about comics of all types. Not afraid to tell the truth about other temple administration or the university in general. Can learn alot from this guy.

I had this man about 15 years ago, and STILL apply what he taught me in my own classroom. His sense of research, passion for the subject and honesty are impeccable, unrivaled. He is a seriously published scholar. One of the best experiences at Temple for me.
