Comment:
Dr. Parras's workshop classes depend heavily on the other students' quality of participation. If your classmates want to be in the class, then the workshop will go well. He has a dry wit that's easily mistaken for sarcasm/condescension, but if talk to the man one-on-one, you see that's just how he is: no ill will.

I don't know why Prof Parras doesn't have 5 points! HE IS AMAZING. I'm a much better writer than I was, and he has a great eye for detail. He will push you to be better but is very understanding and lenient. He creates GREAT class discussions and they're always so fun. It's a bit of work at times but overall not too bad. He's amazing! TAKE HIM!!!

He's one of my top two fav professors here, and this is the second time I'm taking him! Last semester was online- do the reading, comment & respond to your classmates' posts and you'll do fine. You have a portfolio at the end which is just you editing your best work and submitting. This time I'm in class on campus and I love his class! TAKE HIM!!

Prof Parras is pretty great. I had a problem with poetry and he was more than happy to meet with me and discuss, and always responded to emails ASAP. He just expects participation and a decent part of your grade is based off of how well students respond to his assignments and instructions. Overall I love him and would take him again every semester!

Take this professor if you genuinely wish to improve your writing. I am 10x a better writer than I was before and the workload isn't the lightest but everything has a purpose! Put in the effort and your grade will reflect that. He's very involved and always willing to help! My fav professor!

My experience was that he wanted his students to have a voice and speak up through writing and participation. He didn't assign that much work and the class was easygoing. Sometimes he came off as blunt but he was open-minded and willing to help find your individual voice.

He's a great professor. He's fun, nice, but man, is he confusing! Sometimes we all thought he was giving extra work just for the sake of it. And no days off, not even the day before Thanksgiving when all the other professors canceled. You learn a lot and it'll improve your writing but the class is difficult.

Took four or five classes with the guy, and he was great every time. Honestly seems interested in making you the best writer you could be through thought-provoking exercises and diverse prompts. Big on novels, not too crazy about textbooks. VERY into experimental/postmodern literature. All in all, a nice guy and an inspirational professor.

Professor Parras is very professional and very helpful in bringing out your best writing. He pushes his students but I don't see that as a negative. If you're looking for an easy A this isn't the guy, but if you are looking for someone to guide you on your path to better writing, he's the man. And he's an interesting guy, too.

He's not difficult: There's always some reading to do, but no "reflections". A good writer's class, but very mixed students. Some people will give you feedback, most won't even read your workshop material.I didn't find his feedback helpful. I liked how the actual class was run- it always went by with a good pace. The portfolio piece in the end wasn

Dr. Parras is extremely knowledgeable and seemed to have a genuine interest in helping his students to be successful in his class. The only quibble is that on a rare occasion, he seemed a bit disorganized. I highly reccommend Dr. Parras.

Parras is fantastic. I wish that there were more professors like him. He's exteremely helpful and will allow students to rewrite papers; midterm is open book and final is take home. He provides amazing insight into the literature and helps cultivate one's writing skills. He pays meticulous attention to attendance/participation, but phenominal prof.
