His class is like this - you get out what you put in... Read your assignments and discuss - simple. Not easy but simple.

All he did was lecture in my class. Really the only way to pass was to read the text book... I think in class discussions revolved more around outside things/ideas than Indian Philosophy. I wouldn't recommend him--it was boring every day.

Vance is nice and is interested in philosophy but his lectures tended to be rather dull and repetitive when I found the material to be very exciting. He isn't very difficult of a marker, and sometimes I think if you just read the text you wouldn't need to go to class. He tended to go off on tangents and not be very helpful to posed questions.

Vance is a nice guy outside of class but I have difficulty with his teaching style. You MUST read to do well on his tests and quizzes. I find his lectures to be somewhat interesting, but you have to be involved in the discussions, which is also difficult because he will almost always shoot you down whenever you say something.

Not sure why people call him boring, he's actually very interesting and one of the best professors I ever had. He seems to be an expert in a lot of areas. He's easy going and responds quickly to emails.

WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. He rambles on and on about absolutely nothing, the things on the quizzes and test have absolutely nothing to do with what we talk about in class. He is very annoying and does not know how to teach. While he knows everything about religions, this was probably the worst class I have ever taken at SUNY New Paltz.

sometimes boring, but knows his stuff. essay questions on final/midterm arent harshly graded, but the multiple choice is very in depth in the reading. Interesting things to say, if you can pay attention that long.heard others had problems getting ahold of him outside of class. stay after if you have questions, dont wait for office hours

Class is a bit dull at times, but the topics are very interesting. This guy knows his stuff and has a wonderful speaking voice. Final paper and make sure to study a bit for the final, as some words I did not know the translation for.

Sometimes class was interesting, sometimes not. We had two quizzes, two exams, and one paper. Not a very difficult class. The text he assigned were easy and all you had to do was read them in order to get a good grade. He said you could miss six classes, but beware. Not going to class will lower your participation grade.

This professor does not care about helping his students, he does not offer office hours and admits that he's mean and hard. His tests are much more specific than he indicates. The tests are quotes from religious texts, rather than the content of the religion. He is a nice guy but will drag your GPA down.

This class was pretty interesting, though somehow counts as a western credit and not a diversity or world. I'm a little biased bc i like religions to begin with but prof vance is an easy grader who likes to keep things light and doesnt kill you with work.

He's a nice guy but he is very monotone. His lectures are extremely boring. His tests are pretty hard because he makes you figure out who said what quote but the few papers aren't that bad. I just took him to complete a world gen. ed.

easy class, but dont expect to learn. exams and essays can be aced by only reading a little, so thats why its easy. classes are broing and he goes on tangents 100% of the time. youll never discuss the text. and he talks to a select few in class.

I liked him. Pleasant personality, grades fairly, workload not bad. Readings, 6 page paper, midterm, final, one optional extra credit paper. Midterm and final were essay tests, but a week before each he gives you a list of 5 questions from which you'll be asked to write about 2 he randomly selects. I thought he was very interesting. Recommended.

The ideal prof- knowledgable, personable, and classy. He is NOT boring! It's not every day you hear a guy with a hillbilly accent who knows so much about world phil. and religion. Read and talk and you'll do well.

He's a nice guy but unfortunately dull. The class is very easy- you don't really have to do the readings-he doesn't even seem to expect us to. He often lets us out early. Overall, a very boring class.
