He went off on an hour long tangent about whatever he felt like talking about that day for every lecture. We did four research papers and random quizzes on the history of the English language.

Do not recommend this professor at all. I had him for engl 1200 spring 2017, and he was just awful. Yells at people for going to the bathroom, or coming in late. Also yells at you if he even sees your phone Makes a lot of sexual comments. Takes weeks to hand back paper and quizzes/test. Do not take this class, you will easily be bored.

you show up and it's a waste of time. Don't even buy a notebook you wont need it. He talks constantly about anything but what you need to learn, HW, essays, or better ways to improve writing. Your grade weighs on only 4 essays and quizs he throws at you the last 3 classes of the semester. He assigns work but never helps you. "just do better"-Brooks

Comp2: 4 quizzes based on history of English language. Memorize dates, Latin, quotations, & random facts. ZERO composition skills taught (reviews middle-school concepts on rare occasions). Midway through semester and have been given in-class worksheet on comma placement on 2 occasions. The same worksheet, TWICE. Otherwise, 0 Comp lessons.

You have to pay attention to what he is saying every class. It is an extremely boring class and when you look around no one is paying any attention. He focuses so much on history and usually gets off topic as far as relating the material back to the book. I did not enjoy this class/ his teaching style, but he is a nice guy.

CompII: 4 research papers. No guidance. Does not teach comp/writing skills At all. Tested on origins of Old English (dates, locations, origins of words, Roman history...). Feels like a Lit and history class combined. Only discusses himself and his accomplishments during lecture. I would never take him again. I did not learn anything about comp.

Very swell guy. He always gladly answered my questions whenever I asked. He teaches a lot about grammar, but people need to realized that grammar is critical. Most people nowadays don't use proper grammar. It improves your writing significantly.

Professor Brooks has made me a better writer. He helped me out a couple of times with other classes too. He gives students every opportunity to succeed. He is strick about the no cell phone policy, put it away, its not that difficult. I would take his class again!!

DO NOT take this professor if you are interested in learning to write. Prof. Brooks does not teach Composition, he teaches Brooks 101. The only English-related subject he mentioned was some 3rd-grade grammar points. We wrote four papers - each with the same requirements, so no progression there. The main difficulty in this course is staying awake.
