One thing you gotta know about him is his lectures are BORING! He's not horribly unhelpful or unclear, but I've had other teachers explain similar theory concepts in like a third of the time he takes. That also means we don't cover all the material we could have otherwise. He's nice though, and not too difficult.

You will definitely be using textbooks in this class. 35-40% of your grade is homework alone so if you at least do it, you get the grade. He seemed to know what he was talking about but seemed exhausted and couldnt wait until the class was over just like us. If you enjoy music,im sure you will do fine but if you dont, there may be difficulties

I took music fundamentals last semester and I thought he was genuinely a nice guy and good teacher. I thought he taught very well and covered the material almost too much! It was nearly impossible to forget the material. But I also LOVE music and never find it boring. I'd say if you have a passion for music you'll love this class.

He is a really easy teacher i must say. Attendance is mandatory or he will drop ur grade. The hw takes like 5 min every day. Um he kinda is a bad teacher i think. he goes rly rly slow though. he will spend 3 or more days on every little thing coverd. even if its 3 days on the keys of the keyboard..... all in all its incredably easy to do well

Stay away. He gets so mad when you ask for help. When you're out he thinks the work you missed is going to appear out of no where and be 100% correct. He loves to embarrass students when he knows they cannot do it. I find it funny that when he knows a handful of students lost their voices this semester, he forces them to sing when it wont come out

Northrop was very cool. He helped people put when they needed help and made sure that people understood the concept before moving on to something else. Just do your reading and you'll do fine. He does call on students though...so make sure you did the reading and do the exercises before you go to class. It helps!!

I took his fundamentals class because i am a business major. i joined the class a week late and was still able to get everything. he puts the info on the board and repeats it for days.. whenever i had a question i would ask him after class and he'd answer it well. i could sometimes see sarcasim in his face..

Northrop is a riot! We teased him all the time. If you're in for a challenge, sign up for him. He'll push you to be the best musician you can be. He's got a sense of humor and is easily accessable after class. Can get away without doing much and passing too.
