He is awful. I have had his for two separate semesters and i didnt like him both times. My class took a test 3 weeks ago, we still dont know the grades and we ask for them every class. He teaches out of the book which isnt a problem, he NEVER answers emails, and super hard tests for anyone that is not italian.

He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate of what he is teaching so if italian is something you really want to learn I suggest him. He does provide A LOT of work though compared to other classes. He wants you to learn and he will put you on the spot. He takes his teaching seriously so he WILL harass you if you are late or disruptive in class.

I'm sure he would have been a good professor if I walked into class with a good knowledge of Italian. Unfortunately, I did not, and neither did many of my classmates (except for the very few who were fluent or good at Italian. Somehow the rest of us were expected to get scores like they did.) I don't recommend for beginners! But maybe intermediate.

Hardest Italian teacher I ever had. But he inspired me to want to learn Italian more. If you actually want to learn Italian take him but dont expect to not study.

He was a nice professor. That said, he assigned far too much HW. Most people in the class did theirs late, or not at all. Some people in my (101) class were fluent in Italian already but were attempting to boost their GPA. Therefore, the professor expected too highly of the majority. Since he is so proficient, he taught too fast for beginners.

I did not mind his class. I took him for both ITL I & II, and while there is a lot tedious of homework, I found his class a breeze. Just do the homework and you'll be fine. I failed the final and still got an A

I took his classes from Italian 111 up until 212. If you want to actually learn italian, he is the best teacher for you. He is very hard though. He expects a lot- lots of homework. In the end he enspired me to learn more languages. Very helpful if you are struggling in the class. Great class- dont expect an A.

Dude to your comment below me. You sound like the professor himself trying to save his grade. Can't focus on other studies! Avoid this TEACHER at all costs. People have lives unlike others and need to realize we have other courses and jobs to attend not be bombarded 24/7 with homework and quizzes. PS: Yes it is college, no it is not Havard ITS CCM!!

Professor Ortiz Batista is one of the nicest professors I've had. Sure he can be a little stern at times, but you have to realize that he does it to help the students learn. I've learned so much and have such a strong interest in Italian because of him. This is college, get over the fact that you have to do work. Take him work hard and youll learn.

Not bad but not great. Has days where you can tell he doesn't want to be there, and those days are not fun for the students. Too much Quia. Quizzes aren't that clear. You could do worse but you could also do better. Speaks like 6 languages and is the head of lang dept so plan on seeing him at least once or more if have to take a language.

JOB is very intense and expects a lot out of his students, but gets results. So often you hear of how people take language classes and dont learn but this is b/c they equate an A with learning. IF you want to learn; TAKE HIM. If you dont, then college isnt for you. Usually work is easy, but takes about half hour EVERY day to do.I learned tons of ITL

I had an interest in ITL but with this class my interest is squashed, the professer moves to fast for the students and requires you to basically teach yourself. The quizzes and quia require you to have a higher knowledge in ITL even though you are in elementary, essential no knowledge of ITL at all, overall nice guy bad teaching style.

Would not suggest taking him unless you want to study Italian 24 hours a day. He is a nice guy, but not all that helpful. Study your butt off and you will pass his class, and if not expect to withdraw or fail. Recommend taking another professor.
