I took her for Honor's Children's Lit. There is a lot of reading, but if necessary you can SparkNotes the book and still make it through discussion. She has an infinite trove of knowledge about books, and whenever you start work on your final paper she can usually recommend a whole bibliography of related books. She's a very sweet woman!

The class is very reading intensive. We read a book practically every week. But she is so sweet and is more than willing to help you however she can. Whenever I went to her office hours I could tell that she was interested in who I was as a person. It seems like she knows everything about everything, and I learned a lot from her.

A gem in the English department. An expert in everything from romanticism to postcolonial theory. You name it, she's read it. So brilliant, it was an honor having her.

I don't understand some of the complaints about Professor Plotz. She is one of the best professors I have had at GW! I have never had a professor who has gone so out of her way to help their students, and she is incredibly knowledgeable on a variety of topics. She is truly interested in seeing her students succeed, and I highly recommend her classe

She lost all my respect when she said the Book of Esther was part of the apocrypha, a major historical inaccuracy. Otherwise, she was average, as far as professors go. You could definitely do worse.

Comment:
Lot's of reading for HMN4, but hey, it's a 19th Century literature class. Book content is almost never quizzed, and classes are pretty much just open discussion. Assignments are easy. Plotz herself is the quintessential Humanities teacher, so if you like old books she'll be perfect for you. Helpful outside of class and is a kind lady.

Yes, she's an acquired taste. Yes, the clothes and the voice are legendary. But Prof. Plotz is a true old-fashioned academic, a rare breed at GW. Very helpful outside of class, office hours, after class, etc. Lots of reading, so be prepared. She has high expectations (that̢۪s a good thing), and if you make an attempt to meet them you will go far.

This course is harder than it sounds (tons of reading) but definately worth taking. There are three papers, and a final. The course is interesting and the class discussions worthwhile.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Boring, pedantic, and overly historical. You'll spend a day on each book, and will probably only talk about the history of the writer. Fortunately, she's an easy grader.

This professor sounds like Dame Edna, teaches us as if we were 5, makes absolutely no sense and is an awful grader. I know Children's Lit sounds like a fun idea, but RUN RUN AWAY!
