This class was an awesome avg booster. Attendance was not mandatory as I stopped showing up in the 2nd week of September. Julio is a good guy, but his lectures were kind of dry and his midterms are easy. Definitely recommend for anyone who is solid at language and wants an outlook on Spanish.

Hilarious guy! The class is a lot of work if you are unfamiliar with learning a new language but he is always ready to answer your questions. The material he teaches in class is presented QUICKLY, but it lines up well with the textbook so you can review it and have a good understanding. Study for your midterms and final (and know your verbs).

Julio Torres is a good language arts teacher. He's very engaged with the classroom and often asks students questions. Loves to sing, so expect it. He's very laid back, more of a friend than he is a teacher. Easy A.

Julio is an excellent professor and a great guy. However, it is important to keep in mind Spanish 214 is a significant jump in workload and difficulty compared to 117. The books and his lectures are all in Spanish. The challenge is well worth it though because you will vastly improve.

One of my funniest class this year so far. Julio is a great prof, but he doesn't clarify well. Like any language class there's alot of new material to know especially for those new to spanish. Textbook is a must have, attending lectures wasn't necessary. All the definitions to know for each chapter he goes over in class with lots of videos.

Julio is a really good prof, and if you go to class and pay attention he makes learning a new language seem not so difficult! He always answered any questions, was really good at getting students to participate, and always made great jokes in his slides! Spanish was probably my favourite class this term!

Super easy class, just attend it and you will do great. Julio really clears up any questions and will explain it as best as he can.

Prof. Torres switches up his teaching methods a lot, between workbook exercises, reading, partnerwork, videos and lecture. Over the 4 years that I took Spanish classes, he improved a lot. He also knew all of his students and wanted to make sure that we did well - if you skipped class he would make a point of finding out why. Definitely helped me!

When I read the comments before taking Spanish with Torres I was scared, but he doesn't deserve the bad ratings at all! Great prof, textbook is absolutely necessary because everything he teaches is right out of it and there's no time to take notes in class. Class is very fast pace but he gives AMAZING test outlines! Tells you exactly whats on them!

This class was easy enough to get a good grade in if you were willing to put in the effort. Class is taught pretty much out of the textbook so attendance to the lectures isn't a must. However, the tutorials are very informative and helpful. Make sure to bring your textbook to class or he will call you out on it.

Wow. This course is sloppy. First of all, the textbook is absolute garbage. It is a 200 dollar pile of slop and I had to resort to other means to even learn the course material. Second, the prof moves waaaay to fast. You get 5 minutes to learn 20 new phrases. Then its time to move on. This class was disappointing.

Very nice man, funny. Allows you to redo compositions to improve your grade and allowed makeup tests. Geared for students who already speak spanish, not those who have no experience other than 100 level classes.

Okay prof. Teaches directly out of the textbook and cannot always explain well. He is funny and gets the class involved. Grading is fair.

Mr. Torres is a really nice guy. He wants you to pass his class and tries to help you do that. He teaches most of his class straight from the textbook so the textbook is a necessity. He will call you out in class if you show up without your textbook or the things you need to actually participate.

Is an extremely nice person and genuinely cares and tries to help students if you seek it. Marking is a bit random but nowhere the worst I've seen here. He is also hilarious, and the YouTube videos are examples of cultural aspects... to give a break from grammar. He definitely doesn't deserve many of the reviews he's received on here.

Julio is a bit of a dud. He basically just reads the text book and then gets you to do tasks with partners, but if you and you're partner don't know what happening, it's useless. I rarely went to this class and just used the online VHL learning center.

His lectures were useless. I got a lot more out of reading the text and using the website. He always said things too fast, and has this really annoying habit of picking on people. Then getting mad when you try and answer. On the bright side, the tests were super easy.
