Comment:
wow, what a terrible class. class was only 10% full most of the time as levitt often went on random tangents. there was no structure at all to the course and homework was confusing and not related to the classes. however levitt was super chill. he knows OS very well and even though the class sucked i loved talking to him about his CS experiences.

Levitt was an extremely nice guy but his class was very unorganized. Lectures were all over the place with no structure at all so less than 20% of the class even showed up. Projects had almost nothing to do with the lectures and documentation was nonexistent. Luckily the curve was gigantic so almost everyone passed despite learning almost nothing.

His handwriting is not very clear, he stammers and does not talk very loud. The programming assignments are in Minix, are done in groups and it was a pain to use it. The exams were hard and somewhat similar to the practice exams he provided. He curves at the end of class. Go to lecture and office hour to know whats going on in the class.

Comment:
The material in class has no correlation at all to the projects. Projects and tests are extremely difficult. His handwriting is illegible and following the lecture is impossible so no point in going to class. That said, Levitt is very nice and if you go to office hours you will get a lot of help. He truly wants everyone in the class to do well.

If you want the most unorganized class in the university, take this class. Anything written on the board will be illegible and poorly presented. Don't take the chance, don't take this class.

No point in going to lecture because it is hard to understand/read the board. The later homeworks were very difficult and so were the exams... but he has a very generous curve and gives extra credit for the assignments.

Definitely the most unorganized class I've ever taken. I basically went to lectures just to make sure he mentioned how to do the assignments or over hear other students talk about the assignment. I couldn't really understand him, saying he was talking to the wall about half the time and his writing is terrible. I would not take this class with him.

Karl was difficult to understand and almost impossible to read his note on the board. Going to class does not help and the Minix assignments are difficult due to the limited to zero documentation on the topic. I suggest not taking this class and wait for another teacher.

It's actually impressed how terrible this class was. It was disorganized to the point of ridiculousness. Going to class was utterly useless. You can barely understand him; you can't focus on him even if you're a dedicated student trying really hard. And you can't read his handwriting. He seemed like a nice person but that didn't save the class.

Has somewhat of a speech impediment, but he's really nice to everyone. We didn't do much software engineering, mostly formal analysis of specification using the Z specification language. The android project was fun.

He's got kind of a kooky grandpa vibe going, which was endearing early on. But his lectures were unorganized, literally all over the board, and he stutters more than a FarEast Movement song. Pretty helpful during office hours tho and genuinely wants you to do well. Programs and exams were graded generously.

I don't think he actually taught classes in a long time so he basically made it up as he went. Homework was fairly easy, nothing too crazy. During lectures, he'd say some awkward things about students but material was covered pretty well. Basically 40 is supposed to be a weeder class but he made it very easy. Take Davis if CS major, else Levitt.

This guy is a bit goofy, and an odd match for the class that's supposed to make EE/CS students regret their choice of major. Only gave 4 program assignments, none of which were truly challenging. Always pushed back deadlines. Lenient grading. Nonetheless, I learned quite a bit from this class, so perhaps it was not a complete waste.

This class itself is not supposed to be easy. I find myself teaching myself a lot but Levitt is SUPPPERR helpful if you ask and you can tell he genuinely wants you to succeed. Homework and tests were challenging but he was a fair grader in the end.

A very nice person in general. His verbal and written skills need help =/ But the old man is so cute...u always overlook his negative aspects. Very helpful outside and during class. His tests require quite a bit of thinking. Gives his own homeworks..if u can understand him..u'll learn a lot.

Levitt is kinda goofy. Seems like a difficult prof, but really isn't. Very unorganized, and the class seemed tough at the time. Truthfully, looking back, it really doesn't take much effort to do well.

If you are willing to engage the good Dr., this is a good class. Once I understood that we were talking about math-style formalizations, I was glad to have Dr. Levitt as a guide. We all love NY - here is Levittown in the central valley.

this is the worse professor i've ever had. stay away from not only levitt, but if you can, stay away from ecs 160. in general, the class has no structure, but aside from that, the stuff he teaches has no relevance to what you're going to do.
