O'Donnell is great, but can be unclear in what he's looking for & is vague in his comments. He's a really tough grader, but he really wants you to succeed & tries to help. It's a really good idea to schedule meetings with him & discuss your issues/concerns about assignments & ask about what he meant by his comments. Also, lots of reading.

Is not that he is a bad guy or a bad teacher. I just think he was extremely unclear when it comes to essay requirements. He vaguely described short reading reviews that we have to do, but he tore apart almost everyones essays. If you are struggling with your writing YOU HAVE to schedule a meeting. He will never communicate what you are doing wrong.

To be honest, I am a little older than most of my peers and I feel like this mans humor is lost on people fresh out of high school. I think he is hilarious and a little cynical. I had him for American Lit and really enjoyed the readings. I especially loved the American Gothic and Transcendentalism portions. He let us us Notes on tests!

Love this man! As an English major, I've never had a better English teacher. His tone is very conversational and you can tell that he really wants to help his students. He is a tough grader, however, he is fair. Would definitely take again.

O'Donnell is a great teacher. You have to read the text book and be willing to discuss in class but overall very fair and helpful teacher. Only two tests in class (midterm & final) he gives you exactly what's on the test to study. and you only write 5 short papers.

Dr. O'Donnell is one of the finest instructors that I've had the pleasure of being in class with. He is not easy, but he grades fairly, and if you apply yourself you will do well. He is extremely helpful and provides excellent feedback. He knows his stuff, and will help you to increase your skill level as long as you are invested in the coursework.

So you need to read, maybe talk a little in class, that shouldnt be hard for sophomores. Get the book, you'll use it. The tests are short answer to small essays but they are almost always open book/note/electronic device. Really cool professor.

Tough class, but I learned a TON about how to improve my writing. I respect him as a gifted professor with an uncanny ability to pull good writing out of his students. He also assigns GREAT literature and initiates good discussions. He may seem hard to relate to, but if you show him you mean business and are interested in his material, he'll help.

Not my favorite professor in the whole world. He likes to hear himself talk a little to much but. However, that aside it is an OK class and I have had worse professors.

Dr. O'Donnell is an interesting man to say the least. Things have to be done his way and for me that was a little annoying. Despite that he is a good teacher and really seems to love his job. He is nice and helpful and makes you think.

He is an amazing professor who is willing to help you out in anyway possible. Yes, the class is writing intensive & yes he grades hard but the end result it well worth it. You have to do the work and the reading and don't be lazy. The people who are complaining probably wanted an easy A, with O'Donnell you have to earn it.

Very vague in class so it's important that you follow the syllabus and keep up on you own. This class could have been taught online. But Dr. O'Donnell is very good about helping students with their papers.

I learned a great deal about my writing from taking Dr.O'Donnell's class. He caught problems in my writing that other teachers missed. He is very helpful and is willing to work with his students. I recommend taking his class but exspect to work hard. He grades strictly in order to motivate his students to reach to their fullest potential.

Dr. O'Donnell is a funny one. The class is interesting, but he LOVES to hear himself talk. It's kind of hard to get a word in edge wise, and pretty much every topic blows his mind, which gets old. For being so quirky he grades really tough, and the tests are not as easy as they seem on the surface. This class was an experience, but not my favorite.

O'Donnell is the most helpful professor on campus. You have two chances to submit an essay for a grade; first draft is peer and O'Donnell reviewed with constructive criticism. You will have one week to consider professor and peer advice and revise your work accordingly. His lectures are clever and often funny;comments are challenged but welcome.

This guy loves to embarrass students to make himself look good. He puts student work up for the whole class to see and calls them out by name as an example of bad writing. Grades hard, rigid and condescending. Dont even try asking for help.

Although O'Donnell can be sarcastic and rude, that's just his nature. He's willing to work with you on papers; even though he tears some of your work apart, he is able to work with you to make it better. I can't tell you what grades to expect. Just try, do the readings, get your stuff in on time, and you should do well. Just don't get too sensitive
