Comment:

Patterson is one of the least empathic professors I've had. She doesn't respond to emails until weeks after they were sent. She is sometimes snarky with her answers to questions. If there's an issue with software she still expects you to get the assignment done. Will NEVER take another class with her!

Comment:

She was very nice and helpful. However, the class was horrible. She said there was no book assigned, yet you are tested on many key terms that are only defined the way she is looking for in the old textbook she used to use for the class. She needs to make the text mandatory or update the course material.

Comment:

Dr. Patterson feels like she cares for every student and is very personable. The work load isnt bad, but youre expected to WRITE. Over the semester, we wrote about 10 chapter summaries. 5 papers. and had 2 presentations. The final paper was a combination of the 5. All of it was very easy. My only complaint about her is that she can be disorganized.

She lectures pretty much everyday and it is really boring. The material is not very hard but she is not very clear on when things are due or how to do them. Check blackboard for assignments due because she wont tell you. Overall class is not that hard and there are a lot of optional days but I will not be taking her again.

Super nice teacher, but she is too above our level to interpret the info. Doesn't finish a lot of her sentences, at least not out loud. Quizzes and labs before the lecture about the chapter you are being quizzed on. Does provide a lot of extra credit. She is pretty good about answering questions via email. Come to learn and you will do okay.

Expects you to know how to do everything on your own, while no effort is put in on her side to explain it. I do not recommend, this is a learn on your own out-side of class environment, and for someone (me) who is new to computer science... I need a teacher who actually teaches and leads. I was interested in I.T... but she ruined it for me

I'm one of those people who don't usually go by ratemyprofessor warnings... but you definitely need to heed these: She will fail you if you work together on homework, the multiple choice questions on her exams are ridiculous, and she doesn't teach you how to program. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!

First let me say its not a hard class. She says attendance is not mandatory but gets mad when people dont show and gives out work to drop the grades of the people that didnt come. I would not go to class sometimes(only because it was not mandatory) and find out that I missed graded class work that was not on the syllabus.I will NEVER take her again

Waste of time!!! She is a terrible teacher. She told me that it was fine if I didn't go to class as I already knew the material and then complained that I didn't show up. Very unhelpful when asked about due dates and would change the assignment during the lab at the last second. Gave too much work for the final(I was of the few to finish it).

Professor Patterson is kind of useless. There's no point to going to class because the material on the quizzes is in the book. Also, there are the same quizzes with the right answers online so that's a guaranteed 100. She doesn't quite make up her mind. She'll say you'll have a test that you have to complete in class and then make it online.

Just a poor professor. Very unorganized when it comes to due dates and wont remember if she extends one. Also, emailing her assignments is useless because she wont add it to blackboard and it once took her 17 days to reply back to an email i sent her.

Horrible class. Taught straight off powerpoint presentations. Unclear when homework and labs were due. She assigned homework on material that we had never gone over. You'll spend the semester in the lab and reading the book to try to teach java to yourself.

This class is horrible. So MUCH busy work (quizzes 2X/ wk, labs 1X/wk, both from the book). She reads off her boring book powerpoints. Such a boring class for material that could be exciting. Avoid if possible, way too much work for what it is. Professor assumes you already know HTML and JS and gives horrible explanations for those who don't!

This was on of the worst classes I've ever taken. The program we used was awful and froze all the time along with the computers. On top of that, the professor is not understanding when this kind of thing happens and will grade you on what she can see and not what was unintentionally deleted because of the poor computer and poor program quality.

Do NOT take this class if you are new to Java. Ive never taken any kind of Computer Science class and she was extremely difficult and unhelpful. She doesn't stick to the syllabus and is unclear about due dates. The only things I've been able to learn were on my own with the book, but that gets really hard in the upper-level stuff.

This class was very unorganized. Professor Patterson simply went over her Power Point presentations and that was it...no explainations on programs, software etc. In the labs she asked for stuff we didn't even cover. She is not helpful at all and she does not respond to emails. If you are not required to, do not take this class!
