Unless you're a fan of being micro managed and antagonized leave and if you're not her favorite which most aren't your writing will strictly improve grammar wise. Neglecting ideas of creativity and personal experience she will grade you based purely on her personal opinion on what you write about. Think twice about taking her if you enjoy writing.

She's one of those professors that does not believe that anyone can achieve getting an A in her class because "no one is perfect." She is unreasonable with her grading and likes to send people to the writing lab for help rather than provide her own useless input. Not worth it.

She's average at explaining concepts and the readings are interesting enough. She is also very passionate. She can be extremely volatile. She's very opinionated and is prone to take comments personally. Don't disagree or criticize any of the material, even constructively. Say the bare minimum, nod yes, and pass the class.

Dont even bother going to her to seek help on your papers. She is so non-specific and unwilling to look over your work. During her office hours she asks you questions about her class and if youre honest shell take it personally. You might as well find another teacher to teach you how to be a better writer. Dont let first impressions fool you.

I enjoyed class w/ Lori very much. She is professional, engaging, interesting, respectful, and fun. She gives very clear instructions, criteria, and expectations. Her handouts are very helpful & useful. She maintains assignments & grades on Canvas in a timely manner. She's very available for office hours. She gives helpful feedback on your writing.

Lori is by far my favorite teacher at SRJC. I took both her English 1A and 5 classes and she helped me improve my writing more than ever thought possible. I entered this class wanting to major in science and left majoring in English. You will not regret choosing her as a teacher.

Lori's a very nice teacher but as others said here she is a tough grader. I had to work hard for a B- after an easy B+ in my previous english class. Lots of homework too, but I always did walk away from lectures feeling I learned something. Really stresses how important MLA format is too, which isn't bad but she is strict about it in her grading.

Lori is an amazing teacher! She gives helpful feedback on essays, cares about her students and wants them to succeed. That being said, there was a lot of homework (especially reading). She doesn't give out A's that aren't deserved. This made me not want to stay in the class at first, but I'm so glad I did-- I learned so much. Strongly recommend!

I was struggling with my essays and would get a C or B on them but she allows rewrites for every essay so I went in to office hours after every essay was returned. She gave really helpful feedback and the rewrites changed my essay grades to As. I learned a ton of helpful writing skills and I wish I could take her class again.

Lori is very easy going, her quizzes are on making sure you are paying attention. Super easy as long as you do homework and show up to every class then you can easily pass with an A+. She is a very good teacher and will work with you, help you if needed to pass.

Lori is Amazing! She is one of the few best English teachers iv ever have come across, really goes to show how horrible my high school teachers were. If your motivated to learn, pass the class, do well, and take is seriously you should be totally fine. Key for success in Lori's class- do the homework, assignments, ect.. Highly recommend her!

Very hard grader. Definitely chooses her favorites. Talks a lot about her opinion on things like homosexuality, sexism etc. Grades based on whether or not your write on topics SHE likes. Never thought I wouldn't do well or dislike English until I took her class. Doesn't encourage you as a writer at all.

Lori is great! States expectations clearly and tells you exactly what kind of work goes into a C, B, and A paper. A lot of work and if you manage your time effectively, you should be fine. Lori is the best teacher I have had at the JC. She makes an effort to connect with her students one on one and provides thorough feedback on essays that is always helpful. I have never been more confident in my writing abilities! And an added bonus is that the books she chooses to teach are usually modern and GREAT reads! Definitely recommend her!
