He's a tough grader; I have never wanted to rage-quit a class so much in my life. But hang in there. Go to him for help! He does not want to fail you, no matter what it seems like. The more he knows you, the more he'll like you. Also, go to the SI sessions if math isn't your strong suit. He's a very interesting individual.

Professor Beck knows the material well and is well educated. However, he is not a good facilitator of the subject matter to his students. If you truly want to learn, understand, and master this subject to build a solid foundation for further classes, I would not recommend him.

Absolute joke of a teacher. Do not take him... He is always condescending to his students. Very tough grader.... Will not round up from 69.5 to a 70.0 if your final grade lingers. Pointless to go to class, very scattered and hard to follow. Anyone who says Beck is easy is lying. He is by the far worst I've ever had as a teacher. Please avoid him...

I agree with all the negative comments to an extent. I did terribly the first 3 weeks. HARD grader. Went to his office expecting nothing but he helped me through all of my quizzes and is actually a nice guy. Gave me some points back for effort. DO NOT SHOW UP LATESKIPTEXTTALK. I don't recommend him but it's ok if you have to take him.

On quizzes and tests if any part of the problem is wrong, the whole thing is. Dr. Beck is very particular with answers. If things are not worded the way he likes, math done not using the methods he likes, or even if the lines on graphs are, "too thick" as he considers them, "distracting". Quizzes with a class average of 31-57% are common.

Beck is very passionate about what he teaches, however is not always great at explaining it. He will tell you to study for one thing on a quiz and then the questions are completely different. Notes are taken from a Powerpoint, the book is not used nor does it help. You MUST study for quizzes & attend class to get passing grade.

Comment:
If you don't word your answer almost perfectly on the test, you will most likely get point taken off & his grading scale makes no sense whatsoever. One one part question might be worth 25 pts while the next is a 4 parter worth only 5 & has more difficult material. Doesn't care at all & his beard is realistically made out of crushed student dreams

if you want to get a good grade, you HAAAAVVEEE to come to class. and i mean every class. We have weekly quizzes on Tuesdays, and they are all short answer. He doesn't believe in multiple choice and he is very specific about the word choices you use in your answers.

Beck is one of my favorite teachers at SIUE. Is available to help his students; get to know him. This class is not really difficult, it just requires a bunch of time. SI sessions really help. Beck expects everything a certain way, but he will tell you what way. He will go over your hw before it's due. RECOMMEND him! Wish he taught more classes!

Worst teacher I've had. The way he teaches pisses me off. He tires to teach you why you would use this in life, but the test are the math problems. Lectures don't help the weekly quizzes. SI teaches me more in 50 min than Beck does in four hours. He acts like he doesn't want to teach. Jumps around a lot. Confusing. His off topic stories are funny.

Easily the hardest class I have ever taken. He reads from a PowerPoint. We had a weekly quizzes and an exam. That was it. He would tell you to focus and study on one thing and the quiz would be over something completely different. i highly recommend avoiding at all costs. He's very wishy-washy.

One of the BEST teachers in the school of business!!! The material itself is difficult and time consuming so you definitely have to make time to study and understand the assignments and go over your notes. If you frequent his office hours, ask questions during class, and go to study sessions w/the TA you do GREAT!!

The class my seem overwhelming at first but if you just go to SI and go to his office to have him check your homework you are guaranteed at least a C, I am not great at statistics and ended up with a B in the class.

He will try to scare you off. I thought I was going to have to drop the class at first, but I ended up loving it. You only get as much out of the class as you put in. Sit in the front and let him get to know you. He will grade you easier if he knows who you are. Go to the SI Sessions, it makes the class easier and you will understand it better.

I had professor Beck for Microeconomics. He was horrible. If you know nothing about economics, DO NOT TAKE HIM. In order to pass any of his quizzes, you have to read EVERYTHING in the text book. Paying attention in class will get you nowhere.

The first day of class I thought I would have to drop it. He gave a very scary speech that cut the class in half. stick through it he is really not bad. I went to every SI secession right before his class and it was very helpful. I also brought all of my homework assignments to his office which helped alot. si is the key leave the hour before open.

SI Session's are key. You must attend them every week. I never understood lecture, but I went to be respectful. I learned everything I needed to know for the quizzes at SI. He was intimidating at first, but I was told to go to his office hours and just get to know him. So I did. Very nice guy if you take the time and respect him.

Worst teacher I've ever had. Every assignment is a guessing game and you will almost always be wrong. He is a lazy, unorganized professor who spends most of class fighting with the computer. Put off stats as long as you can and hope he retires.
