Comment:

A lot of the negative remarks here aren't true! Though talent alone will not get you an A in her class, Lynette really appreciates commitment and lowers grades if people don't show up for class regularly. She may have "favorites" to talk to, but she's not biased when grading them. Constructive criticism offered, and really fun and funny! Loved her!

Lynette does favor students who are into abstract/non objective art, but I think it's silly to say that she won’t give you a good grade if you don't roll around in paint. (I’m a "traditional academic" painter and I easily got an A in her class). I think that she gives great constructive criticismâ€"unfortunately, people take it too personally.

She’s unapproachable, incompetent and just plain ignorant (she doesn’t think that biologists actually exist). If you dislike abstract paintingâ€"bewareâ€"she is all about abstract art and will try to change your style to suit her tastes. If you’re talented, you will get an A-. If you’ve never taken an art class before, you could wind up with a C.

She is so far the worst professor I have had at Colgate. She is not clear and always seems to be up in the clouds and dissinterested. She would sometimes show up for class, sometimes not so much. Also, incredibly difficult to get in touch with.

One of my favorite professors at Colgate. She challenged me, was fair, and made me open up to new ideas in art. Not a class for someone who wants to learn to paint pretty pictures.

Lynette knows what she's doing and tries to challange students who may already be skilled to improve their work. Some people can't handle or don't understand what she has to say because they only want to create what they are comfortable with. Also, to become a better artist, you should talk to her.

Art is a difficult subject to grade, so the fact that Lynnette's grades often come off as arbitrary is not a surprise. She's a funny woman when you get to know her. Don't take her class if you're not serious about the subject.
