Comment:

Wow, what disrepect -1 calling the prof Ms instead of Dr, and students "suck ups" who don't agree with them - this speaks poorly of FSU students, not the prof. I had Dr. Genz once. She was a good teacher, a little demanding, but expected at the graduate level. Always respectful of students in my class. Shame on student bashing her now she's gone.

First, I agree with the last post. Second, to the prior poster, there is no LIS101! Third, you are so articulate that you cannot complete a full sentence, or get a course # right! Are you so full of yourself that maybe YOU were the problem? I think so. She's an excellent teacher -well read and had high expectations for her students.

To the last post- "less bright"?? Wow, are you full of yourself, or what?! Your condescending aside, your rating exposes you. Dr G was a tough but good and interesting instructor to all in my class -including people like the last poster who thinks is superior to the rest of us. I am sad she left.

In fairness to Dr. Genz and the previous posters (both positive and negative), I believe the truth is not black and white. My experience with Genz was positive, yet I did witness several incidents when she treated the less bright students like garbage. I was lucky to be reasonably articulate and thus not incur her wrath, which could arbitrary.

Marcella expects quite a bit because she is dedicated to librarianship and its viability. If you're interested in librarianship because you think its easy, then she's not the instructor for you. However, if you have deep interest and commitment for this work, you will not find a better or more dedicated teacher. She's a treasure for all of us.

What a long feud by what seems to be a single student. Dr G was great (IMOP). re/prev comment, no A-Kiss in my class. I did the work. Anyone who attacks a prof and people who liked her (esp anon) is a worry. M/B you s/get help for your rage? There are many resources avail on campus. Dr. G was smart, interesting, and helpful to me. Sorry she left.

Wondering where Dr G went, found this. Prev serial poster, she left in 2005! Why still posting bad things about her? You don't even know me, I didn't suck up, I liked her. She's not outgoing, seems prim, but was helpful and very smart. You must be hateful, maybe you are the problem? Obviously, since still writing multi-hateful notes 5 years later

You can tell from the number of negative responses and positive responses that Ms. Genz had her favorites. She would spend most of her time with people who sucked up to her. I wouldn't do that. She would often become combative if you asked her something. I don't care how irritating a question might be, teachers are there to teach.

I agree with the last comment. Anonymity allows some people to write what ever they want true or not. State your name and take responsibility for your comments, you coward! Dr Genz was very caring and a good teacher. She helped me a lot. Seems like you are the one with the problem, not Dr Genz and the other students you hate. You have problems.

It's clear that the same person who uses "sycophantism" and synonyms is writing multiple defamatory comments because of some personal gripe (and with other students). Grow up infant, get a life. How would you like to be attacked like this in a public forum? Dr. Genz was a good teacher, and tried hard, and cared about those who wanted to learn.

I earned my MLS at FSU and Dr. Genz was hands down my favorite professor. The school, seduced by the dollars brought in by increased enrollment, apparently accepted anyone who could complete an application. Dr. Genz refused to dumb down her class for them, so she won no popularity contests, but provided the most intellectually stimulating classes.

If you think negatively of Genz or her teaching ability, it's because you got used to easy A's in an easy major. Marcella is critical and challenging, but ultimately the most useful professor I've ever had.

Dr. Genz is without a doubt the best professor I had in grad school, hands down. Those who state she is unkind and unwilling to help obviously don't know her. She does have a sense of humor, and the material covered in her class is meant to challenge the student. Thinking outside the box is what she encourages. Take her class if you can think.

this instructor literally put me into therapy. i am an a student and she always found a way to belittle her students. after tons of hard work, her comment to a 7 page paper would be "average". too bad i didnt find this site sooner. i signed up just to rate her. she must be a miserable person.

I'm not adverse to hard work either and I carry a very high GPA in this dept. This instructor went out of her way to make it a miserable experience in her class last fall. The fact that she is no longer working here is directly atrributable to her inability to deal with other people including students. The dept waited far too long to let her go.

I am not adverse to hard work and did well in Dr. Genz's class, but would never take another course with her. She has that special gift of taking a relatively simple concept and making it excruciatingly confusing. Then she berates you for not understanding. Her demeanor is unprofessional and unworthy of a graduate professor.
