How an English class should be. Professor Mentzer lectures and gives notes on the board. Study guide questions were given for the 3 exams. Two essays to do, not crazy long and she gives you plenty of options to choose from. The class was interesting, enjoyable, inspirational, and funny. Professor Mentzer is very knowledgeable and likeable.

Prof. Mentzer is one of the nicest professors at CCSU. She is very passionate about the subject that she teaches, and gives informative lectures. You are only graded on three exams and one paper that is 25% of your grade. As long as you show up to class and pay attention to her lectures you will pass the class no problem!

Definitely take this professor. I enjoyed taking this interesting course with her. The course includes 2 tests, a paper and final exam. She gives study guides for tests and even goes over it in class. She allows for students to bring a cheat sheet for exams. Just show up to class, take notes and you will be fine.

I took this class as elective requirement (Non-Eng Major) . I thought it would be an easy class/ easy A. But there was a ton of reading. She's also very critical on essays and its really tough to get an A on a paper. We read two novels and a bunch of short stories that i didn't care for. 3 essays (exams) - 75% discussion panel - 25%

Really made reading old literature more enjoyable. Very helpful. She shoots is straight and lets you know exactly what you'll be tested on, and gives prompts with plenty of time in advance. You do have a reading assignment every class but, she explains them thoroughly. Wish I could take another class with her.

Great professor. Her lectures are interesting and not boring . For my class we only had to take quizzes every Wednesday on the readings for extra credit, a five page paper, & the final. This class is an easy A if you show up & do the readings. She also responds to emails very quickly & 5/5 on the study guides she gives!

If you show up to class & do the readings it's an easy A. Sometimes the readings are long but if you read some you should be okay. One short quiz a week. For the midterm she gives you a study sheet with the exact questions that will be on it. Make sure you attend class because she mentions important things that you need to know for the midterm.

I have always excelled in writing long essays and research papers and have NEVER received anything lower than a B+, it's just my thing. In this course, I received C's (+/-) on papers and have received VERY little feedback. The tests are all memorization of long texts and your entire grade revolves around 3 papers and 2 tests. Good Luck....

This class is super boring and all she does is lecture the whole class. Your final grade consists of 3 5-page essays throughout the semester and a midterm and final which requires a lot of studying and memorization.

I had Mentzer for Emerson and we had 5 "tiny topics", which were a page to two pages long. We also had two 10+ page papers. No exams at all. Love how the class is based on discussion. Take Mentzer if you're an English major because you will learn a lot.

She's a really good professor but her voice is monotone so it can get boring. the material is somewhat interesting though so that helps. she assigns alot of readings but if you pay attention in class you wont have to read at all. she assigns two papers that are only 3-4 pages. pretty easy course.

The midterm and final are easy just study the review sheets and you will literally get an A. The first paper I didn't do good on but before the second paper all I did was meet during office hours and say "I want to do better than last time" and she wrote down that I came for help and gave an A. Super nice lady. Don't bother reading either.

Took the American Literature Pre-Civil War class with her. She definitely knows a ton about American literature and history. Class had a mid term and final, but she gives a question sheet beforehand,2 short papers on topics she gave us. Fairly easy class, but not a guaranteed A unless you write well andor really like English.

A lot of papers but no tests. Lectures interesting. Very caring and kind. Looks at content of paper. Does not go overboard on writing skill like other English professor. A very enjoyable class for majors and non majors alike.

I am currently in her English class, and I love this class. Very helpful, lots of reading, few essays. Do not take this class if you are not interested in reading plenty every night. Can pass without doing every reading, but needs essay writing skills.

PHENOMENAL teacher. Absolutely love her style of teaching! She knows the material well and makes the class quite interesting. I would recommend everyone to take any class she teaches. It is also fairly easy to pass with an A, as long as you pay attention in class.

Doc. Mentzer is the best teacher i have had at CCSU. This will be my 3rd class with her and each time she inspires me to become a teacher. Her style is laid back and she knows her material very well. I would recomend her to anyone who has not had the oportunity to take a lit course with her!!!

Really nice professor. Class consisted of 3 papers and a take home mid-term and final essay exam. Those 5 assignments are each worth 20% and all that makes up your final grade. Attendance wasn't mandatory but she did take it sometimes. All textbooks are definitely needed!
