Professor Mahon enjoys teaching, and I think it helps him get through the hard times in his life. I like him as a person, but as a professor ... ehh. He tries, but be prepared to have class canceled a lot. Go to the review right before exams, those will help you more than your notes (which you will have few of).

will openly admit about his mental health issues. Mahon is random, even though i wrote the same answers on the midterms and finals as my friends who got A's and B's i always received a C- or lower yet would get a C+ as my grade. It is a class you will never know whats going on or what hes talking about.

Mahon is OK. He is a nice person and very friendly. But his teaching style is very unstructured. His grading is very mysterious, same with his comments. He is always willing to help, only if you can understand what he is trying to say....Dont avoid Mahon, just be warned that he is not your typical prof.

He's an incredible person and very interested in helping with personal problems but hes not exactly the greatest professor. Lectures are pretty confusing and its hard to know what he's looking for on exams. He does have a lot of personal issues though which make it difficult to come into contact with him sometimes.

Very nice guy, bad teacher. His lectures have no clear point and are pretty incoherent. He tries but does not succeed in teaching much. Thankfully it's easy to get a good grade once you understand his methods which are basically know a few random points. If you succeed in this his tests will be easy.

OMG... At first he seems alright... until half your class gets d's on the midterms and finals. That is his way of evening out the overall class average. No partial credit on really anything. However, when you figure his class out you should be ok... thats if you can figure it out. i just plain didn't like him as a prof

He's a little odd, but great teacher. Very vague, but expects specific answers. His exams are graded pretty difficultly, but his essays are pretty easy. He's very open to any kind of essay you'd like to write on a topic that relates to the subject at hand. He's very philosophical. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenence is a great book to read.

I had Michael Mahon as a professor my second year at CGS. I went on to study philosophy at CAS, GRS, and even took legal theory courses when I went to LAW. In all the time I spent at BU (8 years), I never had a better instructor. He was fantastic.

Contrary what others have said, Mahon is by the far my favorite professor at BU. He was very clear and helpful towards me because, i think, i was not an arrogant SMG student. I was willing to learn and interested in his lectures on philosophy, gender, & sex..Be yourself and your efforts will be rewarded. I admire this man!

Avoid. Went to office hours for help on paper, given no responce no direction, only "that sounds ok". Hands are allways shaking, totaly random grader can't even defend them when asked. Misses LOTS of class or cancels them. Go out of your way to avoid.

I can say I've never DETESTED a prof so much. Papers are randomly graded; if you do papers/exams acc to his lecture/discussion notes, u'll get F's & D's. I'm in COM, and I give the same type of effort, but I DON'T get C,D,or Fs, Instead I've gotten a B & B+ already.. Jeez *AVOID him at all cost*
